I don’t have any space to fit an rodi unit in my flat. My mum lives nearby however and she has an outside tap that is in an outbuilding/cupboard that is attached to the house. Could I fit an rodi unit to that?.

My mum would still need to use the tap to connect a hose to water the garden so either I’d need a unit that can be disconnected and reconnected when needed or have a double connector to allow both.

What would be my next step?. What rodi unit do I need and what other equipment?

You can use a garden hose adapter like this to connect to a hose bib.
You could even get one of those 2-way hose bib splitters too. Put it on first, splitting it off into two bibs. put yoru RODI adapter on one side and leave the other side open for your mum's garden hoses.

I was thinking of something like that but wasn’t sure if it would change the water pressure or anything

As long as you are only using one side or the other, the pressure drop shouldn't be much. If your mum wants to use her hoses at the same time you are making RODI, then yes, you may see the pressure drop to both.

+1 to this, it will work just fine.

I would recommend an RO buddy, you can find them on amazon for pretty affordable, they are small and easy to move if that is what you are looking for.

If the area where the rodi unit will be is not insulated and kept above freezing during the winter months the water in the unit will freeze and bust the filter. Otherwise I agree the splitter and adapter would work fine, but I probably wouldn’t have it running while using the garden hose.

Thanks for all the info guys . No I wouldn’t intend to use the hose and to unit both at the same time. My tank is only 135 litres too so it’s not a huge amount of ro water to make.

If your mum has a garden you might also consider keeping an extra bucket or small rain barrel to collect the waste water from the rodi system to use for watering plants

Bingo. The RO buddie works wonders for portability and comes with these adapters.

One thing you'll want to check is if your water supply uses chloramine treatment. If so most rodi vendors offer an extra large carbon canister you can add to the system to keep it from quickly ruining your membrane as it's not removed by standard carbon canisters as efficiently as other forms of chlorine.

Sunlight directly hitting it and freezing temperatures are the only things I can think of right off hand to worry about. My rodi system is tied into my washer cold water supply and I can not make di water when the washer is running because I barely get anything out of it which is no big deal.

agree you should look into RO Buddy, or something similar. Just store it in your closet, when you need it, pull it our and attach it to your kitchen sink. Then put it back in the closet when your done. Its about the size of a shoebox, can you fit a shoebox in your closet? lol

So I have installed the rodi unit onto the shower attachment on a mixer tap in bathroom. I’ve watched the vyair installation video that that’s telling me how to do a hard install into the pipes. So I’m at the stage where I have to “plumb” into the waste pipe. I only have one 5m roll of tubing, can I cut the tubing in half so there is tubing for the waste water?. This is the video I’m watching, I’m at 1:59, I attached to the tap instead of mains obviously
