Hello,

I need a bit of help with the salifert calcium test.

I can’t work out what the result is.

I added in pretty much all of the Ca-2 until the water turned blue.

I have attached a picture of how much I added and the blue water.

Where ever the top line of the plunger is with the syringe pointed up ( 0 or 2 or 3) that's the result. Then look it up in the directions. If it's 0 then your calcium is 500.

That would be 490ppm then, not uncommon. It’s considered high but not harmful. Test some freshly made saltwater, at the proper salinity. How are you checking salinity? as that will have an impact. Does the salt packaging give a range of expected calcium levels, at specified salinity?

I don't use pre mixed salt I use fresh salt water. I just checked and think I need to op up with ro water as reading is 1029.

How are you testing salinity? So, your using fresh seawater, from the sea? If so, what is that stuff measuring, both calcium and salinity? reducing from 1.029 to 1.026 is about 10% in my reckoning, that’s a lot of RODI to put in, in one go.

I use this, it measures only salanity. My room is hot an evaporates very fast. Last time it was 1.026 was maybe 4-5 days ago

Ok, I’d do it slowly though. Your calcium will reduce by about 10%. I would top off daily as a minimum, some sort of Automatic Top Off would be preferable. If youre doing it manually just mark the water level somewhere and top it up to that line with RODI. If you’ve got a skimmer replace that liquid with Saltwater, can’t really go wrong, especially if your fresh saltwater salinity is rock solid.

I’ve marked it off, I’m topping up today. My tank is 150 litres and I add 15litres every 4-5 days as that’s how quick it evaporates in my room.

I don’t use a skimmer, I use an internal one that takes the scum off the top of the water.

I do a water change every two weeks with 15litres.
