I know this thread probobly doesnt belong here but i have a 75 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump and lots of LR so im guess my total water volume is about 60-65 gallons. Right now my sump is too small to have a skimmer in or even just the pump for a skimmer. The way its designed makes it not have enough space. I had trouble making it into a refugium. I am planning on building a sump/refugium out of a 20 gallon tank. I currently have a BAK-PAK 2 skimmer with the biobale removed and an airpump and mesh mod (to produce more and finer bubbles). I used to empty the cup about once every week but now that i have the mods i empty the cup every 2 days and it STINKS. Anywayz im looking to buy a new skimmer for when i build the sump and im looking for something that wont bust my pocket. Im trying to spend about $160 - $180. What is a good skimmer for that price range. On other forums people were saying the Reed Octopus NW-110. But thats an in sump. What are some others?? Thanks in advance

Look into the sump buddy 40 made by ETTS. It is in sump but the skimmer is only 4 by 7 inches. Yes you need room for the pump also but the water comes out of the back of the skimmer so theres no outlet. It's a small footprint for both.
I have one and think it works great for a smaller skimmer.

I would go with a used Tunze 9010. I recently picked one up, three months old, $180 shipped, for my 65 which, sump included, has probably the same net volume as your tank. I'm into month two and I love it so far. It's pulling some nasty stuff out and I can't say enough about how quiet it is.

If you're looking for a HOB, look at the Octopus BH 800 S, the Warner Marines, and of course Deltec. FWIW, the NW110 isn't fit handle a 30 gallon. It is grossly overrated.

Go with the recirculating model of the octopus, it is an amazing skimmer I run a large one on my display. I sell ALOT of the octopus skimmers due to price and the good rep they have established

It took a couple of weeks to find my skimmer, but I just kept watching the sale forums on this and a couple of other select sites. I just thought that might be up your alley because of the size of the skimmer.

With that price range, watch the tank breakdowns or upgrades and you can pick up a decient brand around there.
