Thanks all, I ended getting a new skimmer about a month ago. A $35 Coralife biocube one, works very well, recommended
Same tank same problem. Is this what you got?

Unfortunately these are by far NOT the best skimmer on the market and were popular in the 80's and 90's
My suspicion is the air pump you are using. Get a HIGH powered pump or even a dual into a single valve that will deliver enough air to beat the back pressure of the wood stone. The stone needs to be cleaned with a soft brush monthly

The wood stones destroy your tank. That was one of my biggest rookie mistakes. That skimmer is garbage.

The corallife one? How does it destroy? Any other suggestions for one that’s small in size that’s effective for a 24gal (31) including back chamber

It dissolves in salt water after a few days. It messed up my biocube for 6 months after using that skimmer for 2 months, 6 different wood blocks.

Yes, if not cleaned regularly, disintegrates like cork. I recommend any of the Tunze nano skimmers : Model 9001 or 9004

Figuring out the why: Has your primary reason(s) for keeping a saltwater aquarium changed over time?
