More than likely it will not grow over a live coral

They are great filter feeders so I wouldn't get rid of them unless they start to cause an issue. If you must get rid of it some angel fish will eat sponges and there are probably a couple inverts too. Google is your friend ;)

Most sponges are good... They can help filter the water.
I encourage sponge growth..
There are a few varieties that can be invasive but most are not..

Just a guess, but I would speculate that the coral would sting it clear enough to continue to grow. Sponges don't have great defense mechanisms lol

If that is true can I quote you as saying I should buy more corals to help get rid of the sponge in my tank. ;) There is a JF sale this weekend and I just did well on the WWC sale so I might need a good excuse.
