As I was browsing R2R tonight, I heard the sound of running water. It’s kind of sad that I've developed the ability to distinguish that sound from all the other noise going on in the house. Crap! Must be the change out water overflowing all over the kitchen floor again. I set a timer, but the container wasn't quite full when it went off so I decided to let it go another 15 minutes or so while I continued to read some threads. Needless to say, I forgot. Oh well, the kitchen rug is off to washer for a spin cycle and it looks like I’ll be mopping the floor tonight. My wife no longer considers this to be 'helping out around the house' :squigglemouth:

To prevent these problems, I bought a timer made for sprinkler systems and it shuts the water supply after anywhere from 1 minute to 6 hours. It's saved my tail a few times! They're around $40 at hardware stores... money well spent to keep you out of the dog house.

Thanks for the tip swannyson! I was typing that at 1:00 am and didn't post my question. How do you guys prevent this? I was hoping there was some kind of valve or other solution out there.

You can get a float valve that will shut off the water as well, which is what I use in my large rubbermaid container when preparing for a water change. I only use the timer when I'm trying to fill up one of those 5 gallon water cooler jugs to fill up my ATO. I find that 2.5 hours will give me just shy of 5 gallons with my RO unit and it prevents any spills.
