FYI TM sells this as a powder which is way cheaper than the liquid they sell. It's really not that expensive if you buy the larger size of the powder. I'd be interested if you found another quality source though.

It's about $10.50/lb in powder form from TM. I agree that is not expensive compared to many other alk/ca supplements in the aquarium trade. In comparison, pharma calcium hydroxide which is more potent per unit mass is $6.76/lb. Bulk two part is even less expensive. I am still undecided on how to supplement 600 gallons of aquariums densely packed with coral, and this isn't helping me decide!

This is from a brs video with estimates for a 100g tank, perhaps you've seen it but just in case you have not.

Also you'd need a very large volume of kalk to meet your needs. I have a feeling you're like me, optimizing everything to death, a characteristic thats a blessing and a curse, I'm sure you can afford the carbo, plus you get a small carbon dosing effect.

I have seen that, definitely one of the more cost effective, but much more than two part. Calcium reactor media is far, far less expensive though.

I live in a country where tropic marin products are unavialable. I have to import them myself and the cost is 3-4 times of that in US. The AR calcium formate 99% cost around 5$ per kg. The feed grade with 98% purity cost around 10-12$ per 10kg so the cost is substantially cheaper. I haven't found anyone using other source of calcium formate yet. I think the insolubles are calcium carbonate due to the process of mixing the formic acid and calcium carbonate. I think the calcium formate in carbocaclium has be hydrolyzed and then recrystallize making less insolubles. I only have basic understanding of chemistry from high school so I could be wrong. Please correct me if that's the case. I just want things to work out without losing an arm and a leg or an eye. :D

Calcium reactor is what I was considering first. Then the co2 is hard to get filled around my area. So my choice were kinda limited. I currently have a single dosing pump and that's the reason I was considering calcium formate. I want to keep the tank without spending extra for a while then will eventually upgrade into better system.

Been testing this over a week in two of my tanks. I noticed no changes in calcium and alkalinity as well as no negative respond from corals. But all the hair algae in both tanks turn white and dying.

No changes meaning a stable KH/Ca as expected? Where you using TM before and comparing with that baseline or?
I suppose not as hair algae are turning white which might be related to the carbon source in it which lowers nutrients?
