I just finished cycling the tank and I'm compiling my stocking list. I have recently added a royal grama to start off with. I'm seeing where people are keeping different genera of wrasses and I think I want to go this route but I'm trying to make my plan fail proof, or as close to it as possible.
So far I'm thinking a Golden wrasse (H. Chyrsus), Blue Throat fairy (C. cyanogularis) and McCosker flasher (P. mccoskeri).
All of the info I'm finding on these says this combo will usually be okay.
Does anyone have any experience with this combo? Or any advice?
I really love maroon clowns and this is the first tank I've had that's big enough to keep them but I know their reputation isn't the greatest so I'm loosely thinking of adding a pair last. Some other considerations I'm thinking about is a starry blenny, and yellow eye kole tang. This puts me around 8 fish in a 73 gal dt. Is that too many, if so, what should I leave out?

TIA!

I've had a blue throat and plenty of flashers in the past. I think the most underrated wrasse is a yellow Coris Wrasse if you can get your hands on one! they are workhorses when it comes to keeping up with bristle worms and starfish! Kole tang is a great addition for keeping rock work clean. id also look into a Tomini tang. same family just a different look!

I recently caught and removed a blue throat from my tank, they are great looking fish but they have a very aggressive personality for a fairy wrasse. Maybe add it last if you are set on a blue throat.

Was he just bullying other fish? If so which ones, if you don't mind me asking?

Firefish, chalk bass, gramma he didn’t love.

He hated any other fairies though.

Pretty much beat my exquisite to death.

He left my yellow tang and 5” melanarus alone but the size discrepancy was significant.

i cant think

Those wrasses will work, however I’d be cautious around the blue throat due to the chance of being too boisterous for the mccoskeri.
Also, I’d add a couple more wrasses onto the list due to the colour they add. Some of my personal favourites to look into from a few different genera;
Halichoeres iridis
Halichoeres biocellatus
Halichoeres lapillus
Macropharyngodon negrosensis
Macropharyngodon vivienae
Macropharyngodon kuiteri
Pseudojuloides severnsi
Pseudojuloides splendens
Pseudojuloides edwardi
Anampses twistii
Anampses neoguinaicus
Anampses meleagrides
Anampses melanurus
Paracheilinus attenuatus
Paracheilinus cyaneus
Paracheilinus lineopunctatus
Cirrhilabrus laboutei
Cirrhilabrus isosceles
Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis
Cirrhilabrus lubbocki (Indo var.)
Cirrhilabrus brunneus

I’d also cross off the maroons if you want wrasses, especially flashers, IME flashers don’t do too well with aggression. Even when it’s added after them.

I've come to the conclusion over the years and 3 different tanks that fairy wrasses do not like other fairy wrasses and they will pick on flasher wrasse too. I've had success with them together with leopard wrasses and Halichoeres wrasses. If you are set on those you can try and add them together or add the blue throat last. It may or may not work. Be ready to act if aggression occurs.

There are many other fairy wrasses that are just as to colorful if not more and less risk.

Thanks for the list! Ngl I'm disappointed about the maroons but I think i can live with out them, they seem like more trouble than their worth. 😅
