I recently bought a 40B and a wooden stand for a decent price. The tank and the stand look to be in great functional form, but the stand finish is looking a little weathered and isn't the right color. I would like to change it from black to a satin white to match the rest of the furniture in the placement spot. What type of products should I use for primer, paint, and a sealer or clear coat? I'm thinking of standing the stand down a bit prior to any coats. Please advise me on what the best products would be for a long lasting and durable finish.

I would do the interior with a marine grade gloss white. It will help seal it from spills, but will also reflect a lot of light, making it easier to see and work under the hood, so-to-speak.

For the exterior, give it a light sanding and then prime it. For tbos, you will want to purchase cabinet / finishong rollers. You can get them at Lowes or HD. One, even coat should suffice. Use any water based, exterior primer here, also found at your local warehouse store of choice.

For paint, do two coats and use a cabinet roller for this, as-well. For the exterior of stands I really like the finish you get from chalk paint.

Hopefully you find this helpful.

Enjoy...

...or don't.

Styx,

Thank you for the valuable information. All of what you have said makes sense! What type of exterior stand paint would you recommend? Oil, Acrylic, Enamel...etc. I'm so out of touch with painting, it's sad. TIA!

Thanks for the idea. Yea I don't mind doing multiple coats to get the job done right. I currently have a 24gal NanoCube (2006 vintage) that houses my current reef. With that being said, I can take my time to get things right before lighting-off this 40B.
