Sump question

I am about 9 months into my tank upgrade, with my first sump. Now that I've had the sump for awhile, I think I wanna change it around... But I need some guidance.

Right now the flow goes to the skimmer, media, refugium then return. The very last part of my sump is the ato reservoir.

I kind of want to get rid of the media.... And turn that area into something where I can install some reactors. Yay or nay? I would still use the poly fill stuff between a baffle... Something easy to remove and replace.

My refugium is a mess. I can't grow chaeto, but it grows everything else! Which is fine, but my live rock I have in there is just clogged with detritus and sludge. I was thinking of taking a shop vac to it, remove the live sand and the rock... Replacing with a a ceramic block and a macro algae... Get some flow in there. Yay or nay?

Running media in a reactor is definitely more efficient than in a mesh bag. If doing so frees up space for more surface area to be added which bacteria can grow on, that's a win/win in my book.

Clean looking set up BTW, well done.

You can definitely use that section for some reactors (as stated, much more efficient than sitting in a bag), but you still need to push the water through them either with another pump, or using the existing pump and plumbing. What type of media were you going to run in them?

Thank you! It's definitely a work in progress and a learning curve. My previous tank was simple and HOB everything lol.

I literally just started with some corals as well... Which is the main reason for the possible switch up.

Honestly I love that ato reservoir lol. In my previous set up I'd have to lug my water back and forth constantly.

You don't see tons of built-in ones and I think it's cool and I see the additional thicker support Payne for the section or maybe it's my mind seeing it as thicker. lol

He definitely made it with extra support. When I ordered the tank I begged him for an ato reservoir lol.

So my carbon reactor is external and it works well and It works for gfo per the description..
