hey yall

so ill be building a sump

and i want to have everything i can possibly NEED for a sump or my tank to keep everything in check
from protein skimmers to reactors, refugiums etc!

So can someone please tell me all the names of the equipment i need for my sump? doesnt matter the size, just need to know all what i need or should get from UV sterilizers, protein skimmer and what type of reactors do i need? and do i need anything else to go into the other different chambers in the sump? please list names of all i need!
ill be using pumps for water flow with adjustable settings, good marine lights and live rock / sand, and ill be keeping coral, anemones and fish in the tank with the sump build! so i need all the info i can get! a list would be fantastic so i can set out and buy!!!

My second question is, we got a essential oil diffuser in our bedroom with a half opened top marine tank, is this okay? theyre not near each other and our room is about 15ft by 13ft

thank you!

Before you go buying anything i would recommend you narrow down what you really want to do with your tank. What you need for a fish only tank can be a lot different then a full tech sps build. I put up a beginner guide series if you want to check out it might help out. Best of luck https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlyrWzDlRs-o8wXkbVMIZUd9eYVfo0P-T

As for your sump make sure it can hold the water that will overflow once your main pump is off. Make sure you install check valves in the return lines. I recommend putting main pump alone in its own chamber will several bubble traps before to make sure you do not get any micro bubbles. I personally use a big refugium that takes up most of my sump but that is up to you. I also use a manifold off the main pump that powers all my reactors and external refrigerator for dosing, again that is up to you i find it allows me to free up the apex with not having to use so many pumps. I would say if you are going sps you need to reduce nutrients as much as possible so i big refugium with fast growing macro algae along side with a dual reactors one with GFO and one with Rox. 0.8 carbon changed out monthly. you should also find a skimmer that is rated for double your water volume thats what i have found to work best for me. If you check out the videos you will get a better idea of how i have everything setup.

awesome! so would i need at the start of the sump, a protein skimmer, then uv sterilzer, then goes into the refugium, then into another chamber which sends the water back up and into the tank? or am i forgetting something?

Also any idea if the essential oil diffusers are okay in rooms with half open top tanks?

Dont worry about the UV Sterilzier you dont need it. I personally have the water flow into a refugium then waterfall over into the skimmer section then through a couple bubble traps and after returned to the main tank.

So would i need just a protein skimmer, bubble traps, refugium and then back into the 120Gallon tank?

If i wanted to add reactors and such so i just put them all into the sump? and do i do that as well with UV sterlizers too? basically anything i need goes into the sump? including heater, powerheads go into the tank and thatd be all in the tank? (Other than the sump exit and return plumbing)

You keep heaters in your sump no need for powerheads in a sump. You just need to decide how you want things to be set up. If you want to put everything in the sump you can i personally dont like that thats why i use a manifold.
