Hey Paul, I'm not sure if you've addressed this already and sorry if you have, but do you have a plan in place for what will be done with the aquarium if something happens to you and you are unable to take care of the tank? Do you have agreements with LFS to come take the fish, or a friend closeby who can take over for you?

I've thought of this myself, and if I get put in the hospital from a car crash or something the aquarium will definitely die unless I have a LFS come take care of things for me, but if it's some unforseen accident that happens I probably won't have that contract set up ahead of time.. Even being away for a couple of days, stuff can go sideways if I didn't make sure everything was set up before i leave (Like the ATK not having enough water)

Harrr yes, experts. The problem I have with SOME experts is what was correct yesterday may not be correct tomorrow and if the science god says it is not so then it can't be right. That is until some other expert comes along does more research and we start all over again.
Paul, we are both old enough and been in this hobby long enough to know how often the "experts" have been wrong about something. We could start a list of what the experts told us only for sometime later to either be disproved or to be greatly amended. The list could be called "thou shall not" or something like that.

Am no expert, don't have an ology and have little science type equipment. The only thing I have is what little knowledge I have gained over the years, mostly by trial and error. I was in building like you most of my working life and my qualifications in it didn't give me much to support my hobby. OK, I am not bad at making things but I also have an open inquisitive mind and I often think outside the box.
Perhaps we should start a veterans reefing forum on here lol.
Yeah like how scientists thought Pluto was a planet and now it isn't! Pretty soon it will be a planet again. I read an article that said the head of NASA thinks they should have never changed Pluto's status.

daftwazzock. My closest friend lives next door but they are snowbirds and spend most of the year in Florida.

If they are not here, No, I don't have an LFS that I would let take care of the tank./ If I croak or something like that I would like to give everything to Humblefish, but he is in Florida and would have to somehow get up here to get it.

If not, I will just call on local hobbiests to take it.

I bet Pluto still thinks it's a planet.

I just fed my tank Clams, mysis, LRS and live whiteworms which I have aprox a million.
I honestly have no idea how people stay in this hobby without feeding live worms. I have been using worms since they were invented by probably Ralph Nader a long time ago.

Whiteworms stay alive in salt water for almost 5 days, Like Duh...Whats not to like. Everything except pipefish eat them, I almost ate them myself a few times when I was really hungry.

You buy a starter culture for like $15.00 and from then on they are free except for a little dry cat food or bread and yogurt. But they grow 10 times faster on cat food but I don't think you can feed the worms to cats.

You probably shouldn't feed live worms if you quarantine because if you wanted to quarantine the worms for 72 days they would hate you. But for the other 18,000,000 people in the hobby, live worms are the best thing since Face book
(which I feel is the stupidest thing they invented for people with a face, or a book)

The worms do not bury themselves in the substrait in salt water, I am not sure why. But they stay there and just kind of do the Macarana dance inciting the fish like they have a death wish. Mandarins, scooter bleenies copperbands and just about everything else goes nuts for them and they are a perfect food, especially if you are trying to get your fish and keep them immune from everything except global warming and maybe Kim Kardashian.

Here are some Jewish worms eating a Matzo.

I think this snowflake quarantining thingy has sunk to new levels of ridiculousnous .. just seen this thread started https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/mysid-shrimp-qt.687317/
I had to check my diary I thought it was April fools day lol....
Just wondering what advice you would give Paul...

I think I got my 3 D printer working. Yyyaaaaaaaa.
I had to add 4 Gigabytes of RAM to my 10 year old Dell Windows 7 computer.

I am resisting getting a computer because Windows 7 is by far the best. IMO. My wife's windows 10 is a piece of junk and very sensitive.

This thing I could throw out the window and have a garbage truck run it over with the front left wheel and it would work fine. As it is now. ;Smuggrin

This resin 3 D printer needs at least 4 Gigabytes which is what it had but at over 10 years old, it was just not enough.
Another 4 Gigabytes on a chip was a 5 minute install and it allowed me to Print something (I think.)

The printer is running now with a gear I designed and it is 25% done. It takes 4 hours because the gear is big and complicated. I can't see it yet to see if it is actually printing the gear or one of the Democratic Presidential hopefuls.

If it's Bernie Sanders, I hope it gets his hair right. :)

If the thing actually works, and if it is not to terrible, I will post a picture of the thing.

In the meantime I am building a Steam Punk piece. This one is strictly Steam Punk and will just light up. No bells, whistles, whistle blowers, or chains. Strictly Steam Punk like I used to make. I need to make a few more pieces so I can fill the art gallery here on the East end of Long Island.

My Daughter bought me a beret because I am an artist.

One way would be to kill all the shrimp with copper then put them in the tank. There would be no anything alive then parasites and all lol.

I finally got my resin printer to print. All the problems were my fault. I had to upgrade my computer and remove a piece of plastic from under the printing platform that read:
"REMOVE BEFORE PRINTING"

like Duh. So I designed and printed this test gear. It won't be able to function as a real, working gear but that to is my fault and perfectly fine. This was mostly a test. The gear is slightly crooked and so is a couple of teeth. The entire thing is also a little oblong butt hat is all my fault in the designing and can easily fix that, I think.

Those supports get cut off.

Thanks. My plan was to make a few of them and have them all turn on one of my Steam Punk projects. I have chemicals to make them look rusty or like tarnished brass.

Thought you might enjoy.

Bought a 3d printer from China. 3 or so years ago $150 plus $80 shipping.
Got it in unboxed it and there were no instructions. Later I found the enclosed 'sealed' sd card was actually opened and the instructions were there. Not the old heathkit quality instructions but close.

While assembling, there were only 3 springs for the table. So used a ball point pen spring that worked.

Some of the micro switch limiters were not included. People in china put me off so I ordered replacements for $5 on ebay.

Finally, there were no cables to the stepper motors. Again the people in china put me off. Finally, I protested the charges on my credit card and got a refund.

Meanwhile the cables were $10 on ebay.

All the seller would accept is me shipping it back to china at $80+++

Now the website (Gearbest) doesn't accept my orders anymore. LOL

Some day I may finish assembly. LOL

All that over $20 worth of parts they didn't include.

Thought you might enjoy.

So where do you buy white worms

Susan, Sorry, I just saw this. I don't remember but I just Googled White Worm culture.

Beas, thats unfortunate but if you have to deal with China, there is nothing you can do.

My printer is a resin printer, there are no plastic coils to print with. The model comes out of a foul smelling vat of resin.

The instructions also assume you know how to work the thing. It took hours on you tube to figure it out.

I finished a new Steam Punk Lamp. This one is strictly Steam Punk and there are no gears or motors.

You push down the lever with the weight on the chain and it contacts a magnet on the top of the vintage telephone box lighting the lamp. The water valve handle dims it.

That is a temporary bulb, the much cooler one is ordered.

This is going in the gallery. I think I have 7 or 8 pieces there now and need at least ten for a show.

I like it.
