Yes it certainly is, a motor kind of defeats the reason for getting a canoe.

She gets pregnant every two months or so and she shouldn't have to stay pregnant that long but my male is kind of a Geek and doesn't notice her much. He probably just thinks those colors make her look fat. Every time she gets like that I think she is going to die, then in the morning she if skinny and fine. I am not sure most times if they spawned or if she just expelled the eggs. If I looked like that, I would get them out of me any way I could.

Today my wife and I picked to start our fall cleaning. I do the finished basement where my reef is. I wash all the walls, baseboards, floors. Remove anything on the walls and clean that. take everything out of the closets and clean them, remove ceiling light diffusers and clean those etc. Anyway I was cleaning the rim of my tank and my heart dropped. On the bottom edge of the paneling where the tank is, I saw my prized pipefish. OH NO. Not Betsy. Part of a mated pair that took me so long to find and finally buy. How could this happen? Not the bluestripe pipefish that I am so proud of. Not the little girl that greets me every morning as I squirt in new born brine shrimp and she gives me that little smile. Not her!
So I gently picked up her stiff body and caressed it.
I looked close to see the expression on her face, to see if she died in pain or just passed away from a broken heart.
As I stared at her little face I thought. Wait a minute, that isn't a face. That isn't even a pipefish. It's a blue piece of wire insulation. I looked up at the tank and there she was.
Betsy was laughing at me like a hyena. If she had knees she would be slapping them. Now I know why I need reading glasses.

OMG yes. But she was only playing a trick on my. I don't know where she got that wire insulation

lol, glad to hear she's okay. Very beautiful fish btw. Any luck with their offspring?

Their offspring are about half the size of this-------------------------> . <----------------------- and they are in

Not much chance of finding them.

This is how Dad looks like pregnant.

I had a good time reading this one. I laughed and laughed and laughed. Great stuff Mr. Paul.

You need to have your glasses checked[emoji6]

Wow, you only laughed 3 times, I have to up my game. :twitch:

Next week I plan on collecting some water as I have no idea when I changed it last so I am sure it is due. I have some fake seawater here but I have not put in any real water since last year and I really need to do that. I did add thousands of amphipods and quite a bit of mud but before it gets really cold, I want to get some real water. There is a Coast Guard Station not to far and it is the perfect place to collect because it is on the Atlantic and they have a pier. I can just lower a bucket into the water and get all I want without having to go out into the water myself. I go out in my boat a few times a year but my boat is in the Sound and the ocean water is just so much cleared with far less organics.
I will only collect 20 gallons because it gets heavier every year. If I get ambitious again before the winter really gets here, I will get some more. Any day on the water is a good day, no matter what I am doing.
And besides, there is always a good chance to spot a Supermodel near the sea.:becky:

I really need to build a new LED fixture as mine is covered in salt spray and I have to keep changing LEDs. I designed a new unit and hopefully I will start it next week as I don't know how long the existing one will work. That one was just a prototype and now I see some mistakes I made like not having a splash shield. I can keep my existing drivers so the new 6' fixture should only cost about $120.00-$150.00.
I was looking at ready made fixtures to go over a 6' long tank and like are you kidding me! People actually pay that much to light up a fish tank? It's like over $1,000.00.
I would have to be completely brain dead to buy something like that, but I guess people shell out that much for a light.
I guess I am lucky that I can build the thing but if I couldn't, I would have to use whale oil lamps as I don't want to spend that much for a light. That's almost a third the price for a trip to Hawaii.

They pay for the name and the marketing for the name. Keeping up with Jones' pretty much. I felt disgusted paying $200 something for my Kessil. I have a hard time digesting having spent anything over that. Their money, s'pose. My dad has a saying, "Not my monkeys, not my circus."

My Grandmother also had a saying. But she couldn't speak a word of English so I never knew what it was. :frusty:

I don't keep up with the Jonses or anyone else and I don't care about brand names. Generally If I can't build it, I don't need it. Let the Jonses buy it and boy, they must have a lot of stuff.

As I've gotten older, I see the value in, at the very least, trying to DIY most things. My problem is a lack of tools and, in some cases, lack of skill in getting something started. I confer with others often. I have grand ideas. Putting it forward is something difficult.

Paul, do you notice any real difference between real sea water and synthetic? I only ask because you mentioned needing to get some because you hadn't for a while.. is there some benefit to real sea water?

Notice a difference? No, not really but it is hard for me to tell because I started my reef with all NSW and there always has been some NSW in there. I don't know how long my tank would have lasted with all ASW. Maybe there is no difference. But I try very hard to keep my tank as natural as I can which is why I have no reactors, dosers, controllers or anything else except perhaps a Supermodel to come over occasionally to tell me how good it looks.
I use mud and amphipods from the sea so I would imagine for my tank, NSW is not that important. But NSW has every chemical on earth in it including Amelia Airheart's socks and Jimma Hoffa's ear wax. No one knows if any of that stuff or other stuff like Kriptonite, Un-obtainium, or any of the thousands of other minerals is of a benefit or a detriment in a marine tank. ASW contains what we think our animals need in the proportions of what we think they need but no one really knows. We do know that it will keep our tanks going and healthy but I would have to doubt it is "better" than NSW. If you can get NSW, and it is free for the taking, why not use it?
That noncence about introducing diseases and paracites is rediculous but if you are worried about that you can diatom filter it, add bleach, heat it a little, like to 98 degrees for a day or keep it with no animals for a few weeks. I myself just wait till it warms up and dump it in. But I am not a Sissy or Girly Man. :plane:
