I am siting here watching tv and switched on tanked.
Boy this makes me sick. They made at tank for one of their clients that Is a table top tank which Is designed to be moved to one location to another. What really bothers me is they are stocking this tank with some really exotic fish . This tank has to more than 6-8 inches at the top. I feel so sorry for the fish to have to live in this environment This is just not right!!!!.

Unfortunately the average person doesn't care about the environment the fish are living in as long as it looks good. I've only watched one episode of Tanked and I've never watched it again. My husband works at Petco and it amazes me at the stories he tells me about people buying fish. Its sickening. Being a reef addict myself I find it hard to deal with sometimes. Especially when someone buys a 20 gallon tank and thinks they can put 20 fish in it on day one.

I agree with you, they said the tank was only 115 gallons and I counted at least 3 or 4 blue tangs, 1 or 2 naso tangs, a queen angel, yellow tang, orange shoulder tang and a purple tang plus regular fish.

I've tried watching the show and the fake drama drives me nuts after about 3 minutes.... Also, if it's not fake drama, those guys have problems.

I've never seen it, but after reading that I'm glad I haven't! That would've drove me nuts. There are so many different fish I would love to add to my tank but refuse to due to not having enough space.... Then I'll see someone buying a tang an emperor angel and a few clowns for a 30g tank without researching.

Ha I've seen almost every episode of the show any it blows me away every time.

Every episode goes like this:
Client asks for office tank
They propose radical idea for a tank
Then they build it, it looks good or corny. They are all fish only tanks.
They set it up, fill it with live sand and the ocean water.
(Ok fine so far I'm still watching)

Then they go to the fish distributor store and my jaw hits the floor!
Imagine going through live aquaria and picking out all the expert only/super rare/impossible to feed/full size adult/fresh wild caught fish they have.
That's what kills me about the show.
They will throw in like 10 moorish idols, 4 batfish, a school of long nose butterfly fish, 5 or 6 cow fish, a couple sting rays, a spotted grouper, and just for that extra pop a pair of lion fish, a cat shark and a zebra eel

It makes no sense and blows my mind!

Oh and they're all going in a tank that's shaped like a shoe Bc it's a shoe company.

Who is gonna take care of all those fish??? The receptionist girl? The overnights janitor? What would you feed all those? Just toss in a handful of pellets every morning and call it good???
Plus the ammonia spike two days later is gonna wipe out all the sensative ones which is almost all the fish in there, then what's left will be ate by their tank mates, then what's left after that will starve Bc they only eat very specific live foods or sponges.
It's lunacy

I actually watch the show on a regular basis, i have to admit i like to see the different builds they will come up with, but i have always wondered who will take care of the fish, how they add so many fish at one time, and what happens to the expert level fish after the show's over. The dramatic nonsense is without a doubt preconceived for entertainment purposes, but i do appreciate some of the more basic tanks they have designed for casino's and such are that just huge with decorations on the outside for theme's. The show fish tank kings was a little better when it was on, they usually did restoration's or more reasonable, realistic tanks.

You know when your 8 year old watches the show and is in dismay with their husbandry skills there is something wrong... Lol
Would it hurt to go into some detail of what's required to keep one if their setups running?

They have maintenance company that keeps up with the tanks (the ones that don't come down after the show). Most of the tanks are built just for the show and they take them down afterwards. I've went to a couple of the places they have built tanks for and they are no longer there.

I watch the show regular to see the builds but I do hate how they overstock the tanks, but the overstock is not s bad as last year. it is still really bad but noticed they got a little better. Google the Applebees build on Coney Island and see how one goes horribly wrong. A multi thousand dollar shark gets chopped up by one of their designs on the tank premeire that they forget to leave out on the show.

i do appreciate their creativity in their designs and builds. but it really upsets me when it comes to their instant livestock for their clients satisfaction. imagining them gorgeous angels suffering from ammonia and nitrite burn is disheartening. and they always seem to promote their fish wholesalers :(. i guess its all about the money, but man...all these fish were plucked from the ocean and deserve better! why do they always have to rush things.

if anyone has any links to tanks they've built and how they are doing a year later, i'd be interested in reading about them.

Well they promote the instant ocean sand and water as being so great that they don't have to wait.
There's still a cycle after adding 100 fish to a tank

I like the tanks they build and how they build it, but it's animal abuse to put that many fish in such a confined area, especially in the time they do it in.

The tanks they build are neat and unique but most of the ones they show are almost impossible to clean. They built a tank at Shane Victorino's house that was like 20' tall. You would have to swim in it to clean it.

I've been to their old and new shops in Vegas; saw quite a few of their builds back at the shop (at least 3). I've talked to 3 of them during these trips as well and they all seem like cool people.

Since it is a traveling tank, the fish are only in there for a day and then taken out. Just the aquarium is moved from place to place and then a local fish store will supply the fish for the day and so on. It is not as bad as you're thinking.

There are a multitude of "Tanked" threads out there and I am already reading a lot of just plain wrong comments in this one. Do more research. They usually put a lot of fish in for the "reveal" and then take half of them back out. They also already had the fish QT'd at a local store. They also have everything cycled and ready to go well ahead of time.

This is TV people...most of it is fake.
