So I was playing with my handheld TDS meter (TDS-3) and noticed the TDS reading would increase as the depth of the tip/probe was increased. If I submerged both metal tips partially, I would get one value, as I submerged the probes more, the value would increase. However, interestingly enough, even when the probes were fully submerged, increasing the depth of the unit by another 3/4" would almost double the value. For the purposes of comparing my results to others, is there a standard procedure for how to dip test for TDS (or is my unit faulty)?

I can't answer if there is a standard, but I always get the same reading as long as I shake the unit a little once submerged to make sure there are no bubbles stuck on the probes.
