I'm thinking about getting a couple small Flagfin Angelfish(Apolemichthys trimaculatus). I have a pair of blue ring angels, the bigger one with adult markings about 5". The footprint of my tank is 4'x8' and is 30 some inches deep with tons of hiding spots.

I did not see flagfin angels mentioned which surprised me. Anyone keeping flagfins? They don't get real big and they are beautiful. Opinions and advice would be much appreciated.

It seems that you will not have problems for space, but I have never seen two Flagfin angelfish in the same tank, they are beautiful of course and they are one of my favorites, but you can try your luck joining the two fish from quarantine, first separated but in the same tank and observe behavior. You should also take into account your two annularis angels, how do they behave with each other and with other fish?

I like the wrasse one so much I figured we gotta have an angel thread? Lets see em.
I have a nice Emperor, along with 3 Flame Angels and a Rock Beauty in my reef tank:

The Emperor was just a baby when I put him in and the Rock Beauty was smaller than the Flames.

i cant think

That’s a beautiful tank!! And for all the corals to be from frags, that’s dedication! Do you plan on any more angels?

I have asked the advice of @ThRoewer and @OrionN about Regal Angel harems. They’re very experienced when it comes to these fish and both have the consensus that unless the tank is huge, anything more than a pair will likely lead to fights. I know Copps had three together but I’m not sure how long he had them as a trio. However, I guess I will stick to a pair.

Hopefully eventually you will have a big enough tank for a trio!! I may have missed it however, what other angels are planned for the tank??

Hopefully someday!!! Other than that, I don’t think I will add any more large angels but maybe a pair or trio of Centropyge / Paracentropyge. I don’t want a high bioload. I have briefly considered adding a Blue Line but was told they get larger on average and more aggressive. Shame because they’re one of my favorites too. If only I had access to a pair of Biota Swallowtails or Poma Labs Singapore Angels, I might go for a pair of a slightly smaller species with the Regals being my main focus.

That’s a good idea, I definitely think you should try grab a Genicanthus or two, they stay smaller (I doubt they get much bigger than 6-7”). Also would be nice if you did go for a harem of Paracentropyge or any of the angels that are put under the category “Dwarf”

Can anyone tell me the difference between a Bali and Red Sea Regal Angel. I am looking to add one to my 240 sps dominant tank. Is one more likely to survive over another? What are some other differences. I’d be buying pre quarantined fish from Doctor Fish.

I don’t think there is any difference other than ones adapted to captivity and CB but the other isn’t going to adapt as quickly and is WC.

Red Sea/Indian Ocean Regal Angels have a yellow throat. Indo-Pacific Regal Angels have a grey throat. Indo-Pacific Regals have reputation of being more difficult to keep alive, but that refers to wild caught.

Indo Pacific Regal with grey/blue chest while the Red Sea and Indian Ocean have yellow chest. I never able to see the different between the Red Sea vs Indian Ocean variety
The Bali Regal Angels are CB regal angel of the blue/grey chest variety.
also the yellow chest variety have more yellow, wider yellow bands on body give it a lighter look when comparing to the Blue Chest variety. Both are stunning in coloration IMO
My Blue chest here are mid bared but you can see the thicker yellow bands on the yellow chest Regal
