I was planning on alternating directions, one aims forward, old longways. Then they pulse . Should get nice chaos that way.

I tried something similar, it didn't work well for me. I ended up with one at either end on the top. I've also seen them placed on the back blowing towards the front glass.

All depends on the rockwork and growth.

I love the gyres though, still have a single powerhead due to a dead spot but the gyres move so much water. I feel they have to be cleaned a little more frequently though.

it's either the gyre (digger than needed), the nero 3 (smaller than needed), or I buy something. And I really don't want to buy something.

I've actually considered printing a flow deflectors for my gyres. I want them close to the surface but I get that whirlpool effect if they are turned up too high or too close.

both of these are considerations for having it the way it is too. got one end right near the waterline, and the other at the sand bed. maybe I'll just keep sand in and around the rock...

The bad thing about the AMS is the purge waste, but you can eliminate a lot by purging into a print. I printed a little Christmas tree for a purge print. It's ugly, but the kids like them.
