o good finally got my pic to load. heres my purple spotted mantis. got her about a month and a half ago (she just shed recently and locked herself up in this hole for about 2 weeks recovering). this is my 2nd one. had one before for about 2 years and then it died. took me another 2 years to find another purple spotted. found this one on craigs list guy was selling a nano tank with mantis included and just so happened to be the right kind. this one isnt as lively as my last one that one had alot of personality!! but this one is warming up finally and exploring about. hoping it will be as mischievous as the last.

Nice! Not easy to find G. smithii these days. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it! Make sure to take lots of pics and videos.

My wennerae didn't make it through a tough molt.

I was thinking about just taking down the tank but LFS had a "Small Peacock" and I had to grab it. Small peacock is a nice little G. Smithi.

He's my sump monster for the time being, but I have a little 3g Mr. Aqua tank with his name on it. He just finished molting, so I'll be moving him over soon.

Jealous! I want a smithii bad! Nice find.

My N. wennerae just died so I'm mantis-less for the first time in about 3 years. I'm thinking about setting up a tank and letting it sit until I find a G. smithii. I'd also like another O. havanensis.

It's weird though, a friend of mine had his mantis die about 2 weeks before mine. We both had them for over 2 years.

Sweet little mantis. Post pics and a build thread when you set up a tank for it.

Ahh sorry to here about the Wennerae. There was another Smithi at DNA when I got mine. Just a quick 6 round trip and it could be all yours! I emailed sealife inc earlier this year about a Havanesis, they said they haven't seen any this year.

Well, I'm reporting in that my mantis got through his molt well. The molt shell was pretty cool! He actively comes out of this rock to eat. I've been feeding him one good sized krill every 3-4 days. He also has about 6 hermits and a few snails to dine on if he chooses.

Am I feeding him too little? Any advice?

10 gallon set up from Walmart would be fine. Live rock to make a home in with some sand, crushed coral and rubble.

i have a 10 setup as a QT but now im wanting to put a mantis in there but dont know which one......

You should get a spearer. lol I'M JOKING! I don't think I would want a mantis in a QT tank. Might just be me. I wouldn't let Micheal Vick watch my daughters cat when we go on vacation either. But, if my daughter had a pet wolverine it might be ok.

Joking aside you may have to treat a QT tank and kill the mantis.

Have saw, will travel.
