The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

I know this is the wrasse thread but since I’ll have way more wrasse.. wrasses?… wrassi?….in this tank than anything and y’all have been so much help that I’m sharing my excitement with y’all here. :star-struck: First additions to the tank. The bigger I’ve had for a while, the smaller I just got. So far they’re chilling together and hopefully pair.

Unfortunately I believe I have lost two of my pink streaks, I will hopefully pick up another 3 in the future but I first want to know what went wrong with the original trio as I have yet to find any remains or even a sign of death other than algae but I doubt 2 wrasses as small as them would cause such a bad outbreak.

Well, I guess I shouldn’t loose hope too quickly. Guess what I just saw :)
I have 2 pinkies still! Turns out what I thought was correct and when I did that waterchange last night, the second was tucked away hidden in the rockwork.

I tried to get a photo of both but the smaller of the two tucked in quickly.

And an old photo of the Halichoeres wrasses which just shows my Iridis has almost always been ontop.

Salty showed a video of a stunning new species a few pages back, it looked like the perfect cross of Flavianalis and possibly Rubricaudalis :)

Sorry, no updates. It’ll probably be a while before that species is officially described.

Great News, Yours are like mine, one out the other not, Truthfully I believe they enjoy playing these games with me.

The easiest way to explain the difference is C. rubriventralis is only found in the Red Sea whereas C. rubeus is found throughout the Indian Ocean. Similar to the difference between Bipartitus and Marisrubri.

I was very confused when I came across Rubriventralis in the the book when I was sure it was rubeus. Then google made me even more confused by bringing up the exact same common name and pictures for each.

Scott Michael’s book was published before Rubeus was described as a separate species in 2016.

C. rubriventralis and C. rubeus are synonyms. with the valid name been C. rubeus according to Fishbase.com.

Now that’s a wrasse that is very underrated!
Halichoeres leucoxanthus was my first ever wrasse that wasn’t a Sixline, she was a stunning species but every time you hear the Halichoeres wrasses mentioned you never hear Leucoxanthus and it’s always chrysus.

I was so concerned putting another Halichoeres wrasse in the tank. Christmas wrasse initially flashed a few times to show his dominance but now a day later he could care less about the new addition.

I was trying to get some good photos of my earls but he hides anytime I get near the tank with a camera. As soon as I sat down on the couch and turned around, he was right out front.
