Called my LFS to ask what wrasses they got in this week and they told me they have a female and super male Golden Rhomboid.
I am struggling right now. Sitting here trying to calculate how long I’ll be in the dog house if I “oops I slipped and my card got charged” in this situation.

Rumor has it LFS got in my black leopard, Its been hiding, they saw it yesterday while looking for another wrasse it that tank 2-3 inches and looks fat. I will see it and most likely bring it home This Sat.

Shutmani aren’t in season yet, I believe it goes Australia then the Philippines/Indonesia then back to Australia and then Philippines/Indonesia. Japan, Madagascar, The Red Sea and other generally don’t follow a seasonal pattern and it’s just collector dependant.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Super males are beautiful, but would probably have a shorter time to enjoy compared to the female.
Haven’t headed to the store yet, but they said the price on the female was ~$250 or so. It’s going to be hard not to take it home.

I’ve always tried to buy females over males for this reason. I’ve always felt the males were older and wouldn’t live as long. Doesn’t hurt that they’re cheaper too.

Yea I figured that’s what it was but was hoping to get lucky and find someone that had them. If it weren’t for that dang tank leak, I wouldn’t even be looking for new fish. :/
Just fed the tank.....
Tamarin finally went to town on some mysis! So she'll pretty much eat anything now. Looks she'll be around for a while.
Now to get another negrosensis, and the choati. Then I'm pretty sure I can't fit another fish comfortably.

I have to agree. I bought a super male, and didn’t realize their life span and that this meant they were well advanced. Never got the chance to find out as I left a feeding slot open 4”x10” on a 210gal RedSea S1000 one night. Only one night out of weeks that he was in there after QT and he was on the mesh the following morning.
Don't feel to bad. I've lost 3 wrasses in the last month to a tiny little 2" gap in my mesh top where the wires go through. All 3 fish have been with me for a couple years, they all just seem to have found the same gap at the same time. LOL

I'd put both together. And get a negrosensis for good measure as well ;)
How tough are they on snails? Will they be a big problem if they are well fed and tanks populated with pods?

They dont bother snails at all. Lots of pods, and plenty of frozen food and you should be good to go.

I’d go neither and go with the Red Sea variant of the Bipartitus….so basically my vote is for the bipartitus ;)
