The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Awesome! My last shipment came in at 50 degrees and sadly the wrasses didn’t make it.
And this is why I did not want to buy a choati online and have it shipped. Already a fairly delicate fish, add the stress of shipping..........

Up, awake, getting in the shower for my 10 hour drive. Hopefully I have pictures tomorrow morning.

Funny story, not sure of any of you guys noticed, but NY aquatic did a fish live sale sunday. They had the choati marked up to $255 for this live sale, I payed $200 on thursday.

Fingers crossed!
Guess I’m the last to get hold of one, hopefully I go back next weekend and can see the choati.

Up early for breakfast.

What causes the wrasses to flash? I don’t see my 2 flash?
Not all wrasses flash. What species of wrasse do you have?

Exquisite and mckoskers right now. Adding a leopard and yellow corris in a few weeks
Both the Exquisite and McCosker's can flash. They flash to attract females, or more commonly in our tanks to display dominance. If they haven't been together very long they may just need more time before one attempts dominance over the other. My wrasses flash at each other the most in the evenings when the lights start to dim. They don't flash much during the day.

My temminckii wrasse (the one pictured) only really does it when I feed. My yellow sided wrasse does it occasionally to "stretch" it seems, but not often at all. The temminckii is a little aggressive and picks on my yellow sided a little and does it then, but not as much as when it's feeding time. I have an AFS and I turn my pumps off, so all my fish know when it's time to feed, lol. Any time I turn my pumps off for maintenance, I feed them too so they don't get grumpy towards each other. I see it a lot then too.

My naoko only does it rarely however he does it more often now I’ve had him for 1 year :)
It’s become more common in the last month and he properly displays during feeding and when the lubbocki’s go into display.

oh mine. you are more crazy than me. I got to show this post to my wife.

So......

Drove all that way for my choati, he couldn't find the fish! Not on the floor, not in any adjacent tanks, his 2 employees who worked monday(he wasn't in monday, but I did speak to him on friday and told him I was coming), one of whom he couldn't get a hold of, said she didn't sell it monday. I wasn't to pleased considering it was already payed for, and I drove 5 hours to get there.....

So after I said I guess just refund me, he said he was going to get more in next week, and would ship it to me free of charge for the problems. Ok agreed, as long as he'll give me the DOA policy, which of course he agreed to.

As we were walking around my wife mentioned we lost our pintail, he said he would order one for me, and throw in when he ships the choati. OK now I'm feeling better, and not quite so peeved. Then I saw an exquisite fairy. I used to have one, and would love to have another. I asked how much, and he said let me bag it up for free.

So needless to say, I drove 10 hours for an exquisite fairy. LOL

I will say michael at ny aquatics went above and beyond in my opinion to make this right. while I could be happier(coming home with a choati, and exquisite(I was going to buy it anyways), instead of a free exquisite), I think I would buy from their again, and am pleased with how things transpired.

Pics of the exquisite tomorrow when the lights come on.

Exquisites are awesome. Probably one of the best values for money in my opinion!

And of course pintails and choat's are also incredible. Sounds like you got lucky despite everything!
