I'm running a Reefer 250 with an oversize sump and space is not a real issue and either one will fit. Any thoughts on these two? Does anyone have both?

I've had the ClariSea 3000 on my RSR250 for 3 months now and it's amazing! I installed it in the stock sump, so space was an issue. Even if space wasn't a concern, I would still pick the ClariSea. The replacement rolls for the ClariSea are $19 for 85' (22 cents a foot) and the Thieling Compact rolls are $25 and only 32' long (78cents a foot). I'm currently changing rolls around every 6 weeks. For that reason alone, I think the ClariSea is the best choice. Either way you go, you'll love what these fleece roll filters do for your reef.

I've been using a Clarisea SK-5000 for 3 months. It a fantastic piece of equipment. I don't have any experience with a Thieling Rollermat.

Prior to purchasing the Clarisea, I was a little nervous about plumbing it into the main drain of a Bean Animal Overflow. I was concerned that it would mess-up the drains balance; this hasn't been an issue.

In retrospect, I went a little oversized with the SK-5000 and a SK-3000 would likely have been better for my tank size and sump flow (100 gallons total volume). In 3 months, I've only used 1/2 of one roll. It advances multiple times a day and takes the entire flow. The price difference between the 3000 and 5000 are very small, if I was repurchasing it, since I have the space in my sump, I would still buy the 5000 again.

I'm honestly surprised to see all the threads about the Klir. Based on reading the issues on those threads, the Clarisea seems to be a superior build and with a greater roll capacity. I do understand the convenience of dropping it into a sock holder, but it still seems like a disproportionate number of people post on the Klir, where I found very few posts on the Clarisea when I was doing my pre-purchase research.

Lastly, I wouldn't recommend the manual Clarisea, you save a little money but it defeats what I think is the best part - automation.

Hope this helps.

TagaReef and MentalNote thanks for the input. What is the water depth in the compartment that you have the Clarisea?

I just bought a SK-5000 after much research. I wasn't able to find anyone say anything bad about it.

hmmm... we might try one... we've been looking around, and clarisea handles the highest gph by far... and great specifications on that link, thanks @MentalNote!

do you think it'll still be effective if only 1/3 of our water passes thru it? we have 3500 gph thru our sump ;Vamp

seems like it's either clarisea or a filter pad trickler diy for us (https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/filter-pad-tray-setups-anyone-got-pics.549106/#post-5710029), but i imagine a big pad trickler might sound like niagra falls ;Cat

Way I see it, 33% of the water being cleaned has to better than zero right?

I own the larger theiling and it’s amazing! The Clarisea looks more attractive and takes up less room. But reading reviews it seems carilsea seems to go through their fleece material faster. The reviews are good on it and I don’t doubt it works great. But in the long run I believe theiling is the better bet. Because price of buying new rolls adds up. Just my opinion.

I run 50% of my water through the 5000 and was surprised as to the noticeable difference it made in water quality. Worth it just to go sockless!
