Wait … I have to tell my SO? I might have been reefing the wrong way all of this time
It helps keep a healthy relationship. But mine is also quite involved with my tank and therefore sometimes notices things before I do lol

I usually get the “go ahead, cause I know you’re gonna do it anyway” statement. Or get this cause it’s pretty

You are right. My SO knows she can stop my plans the same way I can stop here’s…which is basically not at all. We trust each other and I have a free hand here. She only complains when some device I buy makes too much noise. And she fights on the side of the tank life. So I may never treat any of the animals wrong :D

My wife luckily likes the hobby and has helped me all along. I have to reign her in sometimes. Last time we went coral shopping I picked out one or two frags, and she added like eight more. She didnt even as how much it was. Bill came up, she said Holy **** what did you buy. Showed her that one of her corals, an ORA red goni, was more expensive by itself than everything I picked up. She does ***** some about the maintenance and reef gear, but I remind her it's for the fish, and her expensive corals.

While I tell her everything.... I usually wait until the last minute and until she actually asks.... Yes, I am.scared of her reaction lol

I do try yo keep it as cheap as possible, but what ticks her most is not the money, but the time spent away trading corals on weekends. Lol

I don’t tell her about my purchases unless they are over a couple hundred. We each have our own accounts but she never buys anything expensive for herself. Her hobby is the kids and they’re hobbies.
So if I’m spending a few hundred that could be spent on the family, I tell her about it. And she grinds my beans pretty good each time haha so I limit the big purchases to once every few months or less if I can.

This is 100% it for me. She actually likes the hobby (I do all the work, but she has been the decider on a number of our inhabitants), but she's not thrilled Saturday AM when I say "I'll be back in 45 minutes, I just have to go grab a couple of corals from this guy..."

Other than that, we're pretty good. She's come with me to pick out coral, fish, etc. I'm not spending like some reefers, but I'm still transparent about my purchases she doesn't fight me on them (she's also got several boxes per day arriving from who knows where and I don't ask questions).

Well normally I would get this biz if I bought something very expensive and unnecessary but my girlfriend is generally pretty supportive about me buying coral. She was on the fence about my fish tank going in the dining room and in the end she hated it….but the silver lining is she hated it and demanded I get a new one

Part of my wife’s issue is she wants what we can’t have. She’s “I want a candy cane shrimp (cleaner shrimp)” “oh and I want this Wrasse or that Lionfish” that both will eat the shrimp.

At least you got a wife who likes this.

We dont fight about money, reefs, or pedals. We fight over video games....
Husband "Want to play mario party with me?
Me: "no, i dont want to play mario party"

.... Biggest mistake ever... Now i have to get myself out of this hole.
