I just feel like fish stores tend to treat fish poorly and I think it would be a shame for the fish to go to them. Or maybe LFS treat them well and its the large pet store chains and wholesalers that I should avoid. Thoughts?
Depends on the store. I know of a couple I wouldn't want to bring fish to. I was usually able to sell off the fry on the local forum and often times had batches spoken for before they were even ready.

The good thing is that you can choose which vendors to sell too. In my experience it is maiu the chain stores that hire people with little to no experience in the job they are paying them for. LFS's is the way I would go.
