Thoughts on coral QT

I already have a 10g tank that I'm goin to use for my fish QT and now I'm thinking about my coral QT. So I have a few questions:

1. Do people really QT softies and LPS? I have always just dipped and gone.
2. What about lighting? Would corals benefit from the same red grow lights people use in their sumps? They don't make a nice-t0-look-at tank, but if I'm just promoting health, why not?

I always dip and inspect. I only QT if there is a pest issue or something looks wrong.
