Hello everyone!

I've been following the BRS/WWC hybrid method with my 13.5 gallon fluval evo I set up in December and since mid January the only resident has been a single dwarf blue legged hermit crab I've named Hermes. I've really come to enjoy his antics in that time, to the point where I've decided to get another hermit crab but this time I was going to add a scarlet hermit crab. I really like the deep red and have read they are one of the most pleasant hermit crabs in terms of disposition (usually). My over all stocking plan for the tank is only the two crabs, a Plectranthias inermis that I won't be getting for at least 3 weeks and the rest will be softies!

The reason I'm asking is because I'm going to Florida from the 26th-5th and although I have some time before then in case an issue arises, and someone who doesn't mind dropping a piece of mysis in front of each crab every couple of days while I'm gone- I'm still on the fence about wether or not I should get the crab before I leave (probably tomorrow actually) or wait until I return.

I know a lot of people don't think this much about hermit crabs but I really care about the animals I keep and as this is my first saltwater aquarium I would like to insure things go as smoothly as possible.

Thanks in Advance!

I had a scarlet hermit and a electric blue hermit that always would be close to eachother. I really miss them having them, super cool. I feed all of my inverts individually when I feed my tanks so I understand where your coming from. After a while they may even come up to you when you feed. If you do have someone to feed them when your away. then I dont see an issue with getting before you leave. But if your worried hold off untill you get back.

I'm a fan of the Halloween hermits. They are interesting. Some say polyp nippers, I've never seen it. My crabs get a hikari algae wafer halves or quarters every couple days.
Thanks for the response, I can see why! They are beautiful crabs but from what I've read the scarlets seem to be a better fit for my tank (plus my girlfriend likes them and thats really important;Hilarious).

Thanks! I really hope mine get along as well as yours did! I'm worried enough to ask but I figured I'd get some other opinions just to make sure I didn't miss anything that more seasoned reefers might pick up on. Even when I have the fish in the tank I'm probably going to make sure everyone gets a little slice of something every now and then because I enjoy watching them eat and as with anything I'm sure they'll be more pleasant with one another on full stomachs!
