Tissue Recession

What are the causes of this? I have a jedi mindtrick, setosa, and a red digi that have been having the tissue recede slowly. The mindtrick was the first to start and it started right after I started dosing some magnesium cause it was a little low. I know stn is usually caused by alk spikes, but could me raising my mag from 1260 to 1400 in 6 days cause it too? I haven't added any mag in about 2 weeks and did a 10% water change last week with another to come tuesday but the tissue is still receding (very slowly). No nudi's or parasites that I've seen I've been looking every night, and the polyps are still extended on the live tissue.

What are your current test readings? Could be many things.

Tissue neurosis is normally caused by a bacterial infection, which is caused by an unhealthy slime coat, which is normally caused by stress and poor water quality.

Test your water and get all PO4 and all forms of Nitrogen filtered out. You can also dip your corals in an antibacterial dip (lots of different brands brightwell, Warner marine) and move them to a high flow area. Last resort is to try to save healthy tissue by fragging.

Normally once your water quality is in check the tissue should stop dieing and recover. Some coral vitamins help speed the recovery process :)

sometimes it's helpful in my experience to remove some of the necrosis, as these areas are usually teaming with infection (if it's in fact a bacterial infection) just removing the edges where it's fading might help some.

When you say removing the edges do you mean cut that part of the coral off or just scrape the flesh off?

Cut the healthy part of the coral right off to stop the progress of the infection. This only works if indeed thats whats causing the recession. If its a water quality issue this will not help. Its worth a shot though. Do you do any type of carbon dosing, or gfo? also, listing your paramiters would help alot.

I just got a chance to test my water and
Ammonia - 0
Nitrate - 0
Nitrite - 0
pH - 8
Phospate - 0
Calcium - 440
KH - 10
Mag - 1380
Salinity - 1.023

I always use GFO and carbon every once in a while.
