So I'm looking for some input from those who have been down a similar road. I have had a fluval evo setup for about a year and a half. About six months into the fluval I brought home a green bubble tip. About a month later it had lost all it's bubbles and has remained long and stringy. I upgraded my lighted to a Current USA Orbit thinking the anemone would possibly bubble up (after much reading found out that it might not bubble up again). Fast forward to now, I have 2 GBTAs and 1 condylactis anemone. Both the gbtas are long and stringy and the condy expands and contracts all day (not staying very "poofy" for long). Over the last few months I have setup a 35 gallon cube with an AI Prime. I'm getting ready to transfer the rest of my livestock and rock to the new tank. My question is, should I be concerned that the gbta's are long and stringy (are they healthy enough to transfer) or would they be better off re-homed to a larger established system?

the loss of the namesake bubble tips is a frustrating reality for many bta owners. i haven’t read anything definitively linking the loss (or reappearance) of the bubble tips to lighting, flow, feeding, or water chemistry, etc. lost bubble tips aren’t necessarily a sign of an unhealthy bta either.

if your bta is holding good color and feels sticky, i’d say it’s definitely okay for the move. your eco set-up at a year and a half was pretty reasonable age to introduce an anemone imho.

Thanks for the input. Yes they seem to hold good color and aren't constantly roaming. I do wish they would hold their bubbles (so stunning when i first saw them in the store).

@footgal that’s awesome to hear! amount? time of feeding?

i’m curious time also ask where does yr pH and alkalinity trend? tank temp?
Bro honestly I don’t even own a test kit. Salinity is 1.025 ish and temp is 78 ish that’s all I know in terms of perams. I just feed it whenever I feed the fish, a chunk about the size of my thumbnail.

Those are some nice anemones. Don't fear that the bubbles will never come back. Mine has had bubbles come and go the whole time I've had it. Not sure what affects it, for mine it seems like some spots it goes in the tank it'll bubble and some it will get stringy. Haven't done anything different feeding it ever so I guess maybe for mine it is due to flow and lighting changes.

Hi! I have successfully proven that feeding a bta helps it regain and retain its bubbles :). My RBTA started out like your GBTA and today she looks like this. I feed her every day with LRS

I can contradict that. I feed mine everyday and it hasn't bubbled up. Big an healthy but no bubbles.

Feeding does not create or induce bubbles in bta's. That is anecdotal evidence. Maybe Footgal's nem in particular responds favorably to feeding but to apply that to all bta's will not hold true.

I have 5 different BTA (so splits from the same mother don’t count) this has held true for all of them. RBTA, CSB, BW, POTO SS, GBTA

Nice nem you got there!
Would you mind sharing your lighting setup.
I have notice that on my tank the lighting affects the bubbles... sometimes at night with different lighting the will be stringy; next day with more lighting the bubbles are back.
Thanks,

Thanks,
I prefer the tank with my AI Prime HD at 100% the nems seem bubblier and more vibrant. My 25 gallon has Eco tech marine gen 4 lights at 70%. Here’s comparison pics. Both nems are exactly the same (split from the same mother) and the babies are underneath their respective mothers. All nems below are lineages from the original mother in the 20 gallon under AI Prime HD

Thanks! I’ve gotten a lot of skepticism for my methodology concerning how I reef, but it’s working! My CSB is still pretty bubbly as well, I always see them all sad and stringy so I’m happy that it seems to be doing so well!

Fluval evo lighting isn’t amazing. Some blues and all whites. I have one but I keep my rock flower. Nem in my frag with an ai prime 16hd. Awesom the other day somehow my nem hitchhiked on a scarlet hermit crab for a day that was cool
