Hi everyone,

What’s happening to my toadstool leather coral?
This week i noticed white spots forming at first i thought these spots were probably sand dust.
So i tried blasting it of but the spots kept getting bigger and bigger everyday, i kept an eye out on it and i didn’t see any worm etc.
it’s also not opening at all…

Thanks in advance

I believe it is starting to divide.

the white parts would concern me, white on a coral is bad news. What is your lighting and flow like? Parameters?

If that’s the case, how does that process work? What should i keep an eye out for?
If it’s dividing the hole will get larger over time. Then at some time, the piece will fall off the parent and you can mount that piece if desired.

To me, the white parts look like dead tissue. I don't know what kind of light you have or what size tank, so I can't comment on the intensity, but IMO something is wrong.

Looks like dead tissue from a possible bacterial infection. If you have any fish that are coral nippers that could also be a culprit. What are your parameters like? Softies are much more forgiving but you want to be sure they are stable. Are any other corals experiencing necrosis?

The tank 1,5 years. The toadstool 4 months
Okay, it's not likely to be that then.

The only time I saw anything like that in an established toadstool was when it was in contact with a kenya tree. After moving the tree, my singapore angel ate all the dead tissue and the toadstool recovered.

Parameters should be good,
Temperature 25,5,

Salinity1.024

pH 8.1,

Ammonia 0,

Nitrate 0.2

Alkalinity 8dKH,

Calcium 420ppm,

and Magnesium 1350 ppm.

Those are good stable numbers. Is it the only coral experiencing the issues?

I was actually thinking of upgrading my tank, but i should probably not move it at all atm…
Sorry to hear that luckily it recovered
