Hello, I picked up a new torch a couple weeks ago. For the most part, it's been doing well, but I noticed a bit of a rip i guess you want to call it. I moved it to a lower part of my tank because maybe it was getting too much flow. My other torch is doing great. My question is, how much of a cause for concern is this? Hopefully the pic isn't too blurry. Thank you

It’s hard to see in blue light, please post under white light. If there is truly a tissue tear you can do a iodine dip to prevent infection. Lugol’s iodine is great. Add to some tank water until it is the color of light ice tea and let it sit for 8-10 minutes. Rinse and put it back in the tank. Better yet do an in tank treatment of cipro. These recommendations are based to your opinion that there is tissue damage, I really can’t tell in the picture.

Sorry. Here is a better Pic. Thank you for the help.
I’ve never seen anything like that. Definitely tissue damage. Follow my instructions above and perhaps it can be saved. I used bone cutters to remove a plug from a hammer once and it cracked vertically leaving three pieces with polyps. The one with the most polyps survived. Good luck and keep us updated.

Thank you, I will. My fear is i had it too high with too much flow hitting it. My parameters are solid and my rasta torch is doing awesome. Hoping I can save this one as it's still swaying a bit. I'll keep you updated when I treat it.

Well, did a dip last night and left it in a low area, came home after work and the torch completely melted. Sucks. Gonna recheck my parameters and see what's up. Other corals are doing fine. Pretty bummed out as this was my second torch and first big coral I've lost.

When I saw post 3 I knew it was beyond saving

Sorry for the loss, looked like a nice one. Try lower flow next time until it’s fully adjusted and doing well in the tank

Thank you. Rookie torch mistake. Thankfully my rasta torch is still doing well. Yes, I had it kind of high up with stronger flow, going to recalibrate and retry another torch, but maybe a different one. Need to recheck my parameters, even though I just checked them. It's just crazy it looked great on Monday, then yesterday just looked ripped apart. When torch corals go bad, can they melt away really quick?

Yes. It’s very fast. Sometimes 2 or 3 days. Sometimes overnight

I have a 2 head holy grail. Grown from single head over the last few Months. The second head was splitting to make a 3 head torch. The splitting head randomly died overnight. I’m back to 1 head and honestly it ain’t looking great.

I have tons of other torches in the system, all doing great. Makes no sense sometimes

Thanks. Not new to fish but very new to reefing, so this is all new to me. My LFS guy said torches can be like that and if I really like them, don't stir away from them, because they can be tricky. Thankfully he gave me some store credit. Wasn't the most expensive torch, but 50 bucks down the drain lol. My first big reefing loss and won't be the last, but I'm hoping to chalk this up to a learning experience, especially when I'm ready to get another torch.

Good advice from your LFS. I've only been reefing for 2 years or so, and torches are hit or miss. Some like solid flow, some want it calm. Same with light.

My indo gold was splitting from 3 heads, finished its split, and nearly melted away on 2 heads a week later with no real environment change. So frustrating, but the torches I've gotten since have done well. That one is alive and may come back some day, might be a pipe dream.

Keep at it, you're doing the right things. Wish they were cheaper that's for sure.

Thanks for chiming in. It stinks but I'm glad in a way to hear other ppl having similar situations. Im torn between which I like more, torches or frogspawns. My frogspawn is doing great so if I try another torch and it dies, may just go the frogspawn route.
