To that end it is ICP-OES not ICP-MS and it is my understanding that the MS variant appears to be (on par) more aligned with the stated purpose of ICP testing for reef aquaria trace element dosing, regardless of its efficacy.

I am a Triton Core 7 user (convenience) but question their transparency. It looks to me like another layer of obfuscation with regard to providing actual metrics vs "trust us and do this" methodology, aimed at ecosystem dependence.

Are they telling you exact concentration and form of:
- Chromium (Cr)
- Cobalt (Co)
- Iodine (I)
- Iron (Fe)
- Lithium (Li)
- Molybdenum (Mo)
- Manganese (Mn)
- Nickel (Ni)
- Strontium (Sr)
- Vanadium (V)
- Zinc (Zn)
... that are included in each custom bottle shipped and/or what the actual system targets are?

Where are those targets levels derived from?

Curious to see the actual level of transparency here.

I am not familar with the ICP-MS but have used the OES for years. I cannnot tell you what the data set are pulled from but the results tell you the ranges they are shooting for. So we know what they are shooting for. To your point I hope they are rihgt.

Then as far as what is in the monthly cocktails it woud be the same amounts that they are suggesting daily or (x7) weekly. Easy enough to push that 7days to 30.

The problem with ICP-OES is that the range, even of the company in question, can be below the range of detection, making "none detected" be normal to them, without really saying if there is any available or not.

I realize I’m very late to this thread. I have been traveling a lot and haven’t logged in for a while. However, I wanted to say that the Triton ICP program where they supply a single monthly supplement mixture has truly been a game changer for my Red Sea 425XL system. I use the Trident Apex dosing system for for Red Sea core & trace elements and do biweekly water changes w Red Sea Coral Pro Salt (this post is starting to sound like a Red Sea advert! Sorry). My mixed reef looks beautiful, however I still struggled a bit w consistent SPS growth and struggled mightily w a couple of additions like clams and elegance coral.

Then I started the Triton subscription…wow, JUST WOW!! No joke. My SPS coral growth EXPLODED, nearly over night and hasn’t stopped. It is the single best thing I’ve ever done for my coral. And no I have no affiliation w the company whatsoever. I’m just a hobbyist who wants this program to remain a viable business so I can reap the benefits. My only complaint (and it’s small) is that the program is billed monthly and because I travel a lot I’m not always able to get the tests kits in on time so I’m have currently paid for 4 months in advance of where I am in the program. I wish they would change it so you are simply charged when you send in your tests and they ship the bottle. However, honestly, it’s a small price to pay for the beauty of my aquarium right now.

To help us understand the merits of the program, what were you doing prior to this program with respect to trace element dosing that is now much better?

I want to begin the response by telling you how much I have learned from you over the last 3.5 years (my length of time in the hobby). I don’t post often because I’m still very much in the learning stage of this hobby. However, I have spent many hours learning from all those here with extraordinary experience and incredible knowledge, none more than you. So thank you for everything you’ve taught me and for taking the time to share your knowledge.

To answer your question. I have always automated dosing of Red Sea Foundation & Trace Elements (ABCD) via my Trident Apex system. However, due to the reasons i mentioned in my previous post, I decided to try the Triton subscription when it was recommended to me. Now you might find this interesting, but I have not stopped dosing anything else, I’ve simply added the custom mix to the lineup as a “fine tune” that changes monthly due to coral growth, new additions, etc. Basically it prevents me from having to engage in ongoing calculations and ever-changing dosing alterations. Now I just send the water test in monthly, the calculations & associated custom mix are sent to me and my tank is fine tuned. I’m sure this is unorthodox and I realize it is not how the system was intended to be used but I couldn’t decide how to make the change from Red Sea to Triton without having my coral suffer (i.e. stopping Red Sea, waiting an extended period of time for parameters to stabilize, then sending in a sample to see what was needed from the new Triton dosing). I hope this makes sense (I don’t mean the concept, I mean my description). I’ve attached a picture of my setup to help clarify.
