Just about to start on this stuff but was unsure since the bottle says it reduces po4 and if your under .03 you shouldn’t use it
My tanks been at .04 for months now and didn’t want to risk it
In the end I thought I’ll give it a shot and maybe I’ll just need to add a bit more food to keep up the po4 so did a start po4 test ( Hanna) and got .08 which was a surprise so I have room if it does lower po4
Anyone else got experience of this product?
I’ll keep an eye on po4 and report back any change

I have not used it. I am interested in finding out more though. I wonder how that works?

Amino acids will drive bacterial and other organism growth.

What are you hoping the amino acid dosing accomplishes?

I guess I should not think in "absolutes" or better yet look at the whole picture. It makes sense it would be like carbon dosing so it would possibly lower both nitrate and phosphate. For some reason I was caught up on the wording of it removing phosphate and no mention of nitrate. My brain immediately went down some strange road. Thanks for lighting the path once again!

Every amino acid contains one or two nitrogen atoms, so it likely would not drop nitrate when those amino acids are metabolized. It might well increase it.

This is the basic structure of an amino acid, where R varies from one amino acid to another:

Thank you! I appreciate the opportunity to learn.

I have been dosing TM amino acids for quite some time now. Mainly it is food for corals that can efficiently take them up from the water column. My phosphates is high with or w/oThe AAs. Since I started I stopped feeding my corals and have no apparent effect.

Just an fyi, since this came up in a thread yesterday citing the exact words you used (food for corals), amino acids can also be taken up by many other organisms, including algae, cyano, and dinos. So it is not "just" coral food, but it certainly is at least partly coral food.

True, in a complex rich system such as a reef tank , it goes without saying. Although more costly compared to ammonia, AAs, IMO are a better additive as it at least in part it replaces coral feeding. I even stopped feeding my Elegance coral (a typical carnivorous) it seem to be still happy

I used a whole bottle of TM Amino Organic and noticed absolutely nothing in any way. No numbers impact, no coral impact or improvement, might as well have dosed water

Indeed I have no clear proof of the effect of AAs on my tank. However, at some point you need to trust science and your knowledge. TM has a decent track record for standing behind what the sell. Secondly I bought a 5 liter container for a lot of €s so it better work:cool:

I think many hobbyists are finding that aminos are borderline snake oil

I don’t know any coral farmers that use them for growth or color
