Used a magnetic stirrer for 4 hours. These photos were taken at 3:25pm yesterday and today at 9:37am. There is no precipitate at the bottom that I can see so it's thoroughly in solution.

Followed the 1 L recipe but I simply multiplied everything by 5 which led to:

5 liter recipe:
  • Step 1: Starting with a clean container with at least 5 liter capacity, add 3,750 mL RODI water. Room temp water is ok, but warm water will help dissolve the powder more quickly.
  • Step 2: Slowly add 700g CarboCalcium powder, stir continually.
  • Step 3: Add 60g Bio-Magnesium powder, stir continually.
  • Step 4: Add 500 ml Pro-Trace A-
  • Step 5: Add 500 ml Pro-Trace K+
  • Step 6: Keep stirring. It can take some time for the solution to be clear. Estimate ~20 mins. Solution will be a tint of blue, this is normal.

However, I did not follow the steps chronologically. I believe I started with the biomag, trace elements, then the carbocalcium powder. Could this be the cause?

Thinking about this, I bet the trace elements are interfering with each other? Dump this batch and start over? Ooof $50 mistake.

Just for future reference for anybody else. This was entirely 100% because I did not follow the steps in order. I made a second batch and it's already clearing up.

Ek! Well know you know. And know I know haha. I was looking into this a while back. I currently am using the Aquaforest Balling solutions.

Yeah that's what I used to use as well and I'm transitioning over. Tired of making 3 compounds so frequently.

Figuring out the why: Has your primary reason(s) for keeping a saltwater aquarium changed over time?
