Is there any benefit to doing this? I decided instead of running the emergency into the drain like I am now, to just let it go into the main chamber of the sump. I don't trickle like others do so that drain is not used. My thought is maybe I can prolong having to switch out socks if I split the line after the gate valve. If it's not worth doing then it's not worth doing so I thought I would ask.

Red is drain, black would be emergency.

Yeah the emergency drain moved over and left emerged from the water line is not a bad idea…

Filter socks usually only last around 3 days before starting to allow trapped organic debris to start to appreciably break down back into the water; this said, best-bet would be just using the one filter sock for the main drain and cleaning/changing it frequently!

This would in fact be the easiest way. I'm trying to get all fancy pants about it.

if you use a tee like drawn instead of a wye, not much will make it into the second sock anyway so imo, extra parts for no realized benefit

not sure a wye is better than a crash plate but it might be

I am thinking I should keep it simple and forget the stupid WYE and Y. Or maybe just maybe since I am already all in switch sumps.
You don’t necessarily need a sump switch if your existing sump is of sufficient size and acceptable layout, just a simple plumbing change!

This is true but I was thinking a roller mat would be nice. This sump does not allow for this. Many new style have the ability. I hate cleaning socks. HATE IT.

I don’t blame you!

The alternative would be filter floss; the cheap stuff so you can just discard it and replace a few times a week!

The cups don't fit in the trigger sump I have because the space is oval. So I have to 3D print a cup that would hold floss. I can sort of some it in there but it was a mess.

I think it’s not worth doing but that’s just my 2c. However I do think it’s a great opportunity to install a rollermat!

Yeah I wish. It's the crystal. I can't justify another 600 bucks for a new sump no matter how awesome it would be.

Can you not take the lid off the top of sump? The RedSea rollermat can be hung on the back and or standalone with its little adjustable legs. Personally I would modify the crap out of that sump to fit a rollermat. That truly was a game changer installing one.

Nope. It would be awesome.
