I was trying to upload a avatar but I get the message:

"Upload failed due to failure writing temporary file."

am I doing something wrong or is this feature reserved to "premium members"?

Thanks
Adrian

If it is less than or equal to the max limit, I'm not sure why you would have issues:
Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 150 by 200 pixels or 24.4 KB (whichever is smaller).

Got a link to your picture?

OK, here is a work around for you because I'm not sure what is going on.

- Copy the image above and paste it into Paint.
- Save a copy to your desktop (.jpg is probably the smallest size)
- In the avatar screen browse to that saved file and use that as your new pic.

<-- Worked for me!
