Urgent. Miami Hurricane Chalice going crazy!

Okay so I took an eye off my mini-colony of Miami Hurricane. The eye is doing well on the frag disk but the mc is going crazy. About 20 minutes after it was placed back into my tank, it started to shed its skin.:crossedlips: The blue is now a purple color and the eyes are shedding their orange. I have never had this happen to a mc before and am wondering what should I do? I've now dipped it twice in Lugols for about 15 minutes each time. There is some skeletal structure peaking through on top but it is still fleshy. Did I really make it mad or is it trying to die off? Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

I can get pics but it will be a little bit. Let a friend borrow my camera and have to wait till he gets home from work and pick it up.

I feel its probably really mad. The growth rim appears fine and there is no recession there. The only recession is on the top. Weird.

Don't dip it no more. One reason can be that you put too much iodine on the dip. Nothing you can do now but to put it in the tank and let it heal.

+1 on the iodine dip. About 6 months ago i diped a tyree sunset monti in to much and it is still not colored normaly. The is white the the lime green polyps. Although it has grown alot but the new growth is orange. But to this day it is still bright white where i iped it.

Ok guys, a little update. No camera yet but actinics are on and I can still see the eyes so we seem to be doing okay. I do believe after taking into consideration, that it was the iodine that did the evil doing. Thanks to those that responded

Iodine is basically poison when used for our purposes. The hope is that it kills pests and only stresses out the corals. If you don't have pests there's really no reason to dip. Despite what many in the hobby seem to believe, the antiseptic properties of iodine is totally lost with how much we dilute it.

Yes, I never use Iodine. I prefer to use revive if necessary.

I've always used iodine when cutting corals but now I may rethink it. With the coral revive, I've heard of it but I might pick some up to try. Are there different varieties? I'll put up some pics tomorrow when my lights come back on before I go to work.

I don't see any reason to dip a coral after cutting it, you're just going to stress it more.

That goes for both revive and iodine... Revive isn't going to do anything for a freshly cut coral, it's pine oil and lemon juice.

Ok guys here's some pics. I went from 8 eyes to barely making out 4 this morning. It looks extremely poor but I can see the tissue still attached to the skeletal structure so I take that as a good thing.

Ouch...Man that sucks. To be honest, from the pics, I think it's gone. But put it in your tank away from the light and hope for the best.

all you can do is hope for the best- if it sends out feeders t night help him out. I had a crab or a fish completely eat the mouth and organs from my 1 mouth frag of tyree pink watermelon theres around a grain of rice of pink tissue left. now the tissue is about the size of a pea- still no mouth formation tho.

Firt off eww you can see the mouth from the skeliton. On a better note put it in the lowest flow you can find... then i sagget putting it under the lowest flow possable. At night take and extra 5 mins and get a flash light and watch for Any tenticals at night. One that would be a good sign. Also you might try and feed it a tad if you can see one. I would saggest not using a turkey baster or needle method and maybe some tweezers to hold it neer the tentical till it grabs it. On a great note i have saved a chalice that bad once that a vender sold me. granted it took a while but it worked. I acual have a VERY low flow spot in my tank but direct light so i placed the eggcrate frag rack about 8-12 inche's from it and placed some disks ontop to give it evon less light. I would not say it's gone but VERY close it it.
