hi everyone! This may be a totally random question and I may be being overly cautious and crazy but question... I have a 55 gal in wall build in my office. My wife has carpet steamers / cleaners coming tomorrow to clean all of the carpets. My question is, is this anything I have to worry about? I haven’t used one of those carpet steamers machines in years and don’t remember if they give off fumes or anything toxic in the air that could be harmful? I know I’m probably being to overly cautious / crazy about this but wanted to ask this wonderful community. Like I said my build is in wall and the frame on the outside of the wall completely covers the tank. The only access to the tank is through a closet door that obviously will remain closed. Should everything be ok and am I just overworrying ?

First off welcome to R2R. There will hopefully be a lot of people chiming in here.

Unfortunately I have hardwood floors. However I think you should be ok as long as the door stays shut until the cleaning chemicals off gas. If you can, open a window to speed that up. How is your sump area ventilated ? is it pulling its air from the surrounding area or from the outside? This will determine if the air being pulled into your tank from the surrounding area gets chemicals in it. You can add a fresh carbon bag to your sump to be on the safe side.

Outside air ventilation blowing into the closet (so positive air pressure in the closet) will help keep chemicals out for the sump closet.

I hope this helps

Welcome to R2R.

There should not be any issues. If your worried run some carbon just before and leave it in for a few days after. If there is a chance some of their cleaning fluid gets in the tank maybe cover with plastic any open areas water is.

Thank you for all of the responses. I don’t think there is any chance cleaning chemicals or anything get in the actual water of the tank since the top of the tank is 1 covered and 2 the entirety of the tank is sealed off from the frame in the wall.

And sorry to clarify I don’t run a sump. I run a canister filter and just put a fresh carbon bag in there after my water change this weekend. There is also no vents in the closet only vent in the office is on the other side of the office wall. I should be all good then

When I recently had the house treated for termites, I just taped a plastic tarp over the exposed areas and then opened up the house when it was over.

Thanks for the reassurance. I’ll definitely crack open a window and see if I have a clean tarp to gently place on top of the tank while it’s happening
