Hey everyone, I just recently got an apex and am looking to set up some auto water changes with the dos system and have a couple questions:
-If I have a 20g tank, is it hurtful to do a 1 gallon a day water change? I currently do a manual water change about once a week with 4 gallons or so.

-that being said, is it negative to do water changes too often? Or it is just beneficial overall for the tank.

thanks in advance to everyone, much appreciated!

Here’s some photos of the tank and my apex stuff:

Most people strive for 10%-20% per week for water changes, so your 1 gallon per day would be about 35% weekly which seems a bit excessive, but I'm no authority to say if that's too much.

One thing I will recommend, though, is to read my recommendations about how to set up the DOS auto water change slightly differently than Neptune recommends. My method will allow you to more easily calibrate and prime the DOS than what Neptune's instructions provides:

Also, be sure to read my whole series of Apex tutorials if you're new to the Apex:

Awesome! I’ll definitely take a look at those. Kinda just barely set stuff up about 2 weeks ago, so far love it.
So 35% or so water changes would maybe be detrimental to the tank? Appreciate the help

Noticed you’re running a Trident. Have you had any issues with your ATO (if you’re running one) due to the Tridents water consumption?

I have actually seen it use less water somehow? But I recently put a canopy on as well, so it might just be that

Interesting. I’m doing a new build (25 gallons) and wanted to eventually add a trident but wasn’t sure how I’d deal with replacing the water used by the trident. It only uses about 1.5 cups a week though

Yeah I don’t think it would be a problem at all unless you’re not doing water changes
