Hi folks- not sure what category to post this under. I’m just so sick and tired of all the attempts at price gouging for the Neptune Trident on EBay and the like. These things are NEVER in stock anywhere, yet there’s a steady stream of folks obtaining and selling them online for huge premiums. Where are they getting them from?? I really hope these aren’t fellow reefers (they all claim to be unfortunately).
When will we be able to purchase these things the right way?
Sorry to be a downer. Just frustrated.

Keep your eyes peeled. I’ve seen them quite a bit. Check out brs. Not gonna lie, I don’t really need or want my trident lol

It is unfortunate. When someone has something that's in high demand they can pretty much attach any number they want to it. It got so out of hand we actually put a stop to it on here. Tridents cannot be sold over MSRP on R2R anymore. Like most high demand things after a while itll cool off and be readily available. I'm waiting for the hype to end before getting mine :)

Wasn’t there an addition that you could sell it with the taxes and shipping that you paid as well?

I think so. Basically we were trying to put an end to the 1,100$ 1,200$ units being sold.

I don’t understand why this is a problem. If someone is willing to pay a premium for a product why regulate that. That’s how free markets work. Why is the trident special?
every day I see people pay a load of money for corals. Why doesn’t reef2reef
Regulate that? I am a strong believer in free markets and thing should sell for whatever someone is willing to pay.

Well one thing for sure is that r2r can in no way regulate anything beyond what it sells. Even though it’s a bunch of doodoo, people take advantage regardless and there is nothing illegal about it.

I have the same view as you. But r2r is a privately owned website with an owner that can do whatever he wishes to do with his marketplace. Buyers can still go to eBay and sell their products for what they want. R2r just doesn’t want to support people buying up all the tridents to double their money through the use of this platform.

You have hobbiests that are helpful and willing to give you the shirt off their back and there are hobbiests that want your shirt drawer and more to pay for their hobby.

I get that and understand but why the trident ? Why not have these same policy for people charging $xxxx for a torch ?
why only this product ?
The Trident has a set msrp. It is a map priced item with the same price everywhere. Corals do not have a set msrp. It varies of health, color, size, etc. the trident is the same thing everywhere :)

So...I seem to recall that Neptune said that they would not support aftermarket or third party sells. Not sure if that is still the case or how they would know, but that is what was posted a while back. Having said that Tridents are in stock and a few just this past week at both BRS and Marine Depot. Best thing to do is post in the Trident in stock thread - forget the exact name - but people post in there all the time when they find them and/or the 6 month reagent supply. You will get one shortly once people know you are on the lookout.

More importantly keep this in mind that this not just a Neptune / Trident issue. GHL is asking people to put a 50% deposit and other products for which I won't mention a name required 100% paid in full. I think Neptune is doing the right thing honestly and they have been up front and honest from the get go why it takes longer per say compared to just ordering the manufacture to crank up another 1,000 return pumps. Not the same.

Lastly I'll leave you with this little gem. I've been shopping around for a Ford GT500. I can spec out the build at a little over 105. However, local dealers to include cross state line are adding 45K ADM to the price of the car. Found one in California and the dealer was asking 169K for the car and it didn't even include any of the track packages...

Doesn't matter what hobby we are in folks. Business will mark up in the initial round and others will find a way to buy early or skirt rules and mark up/ ebay and it will last a year or two. People will pay. People have more money be it smarter, wiser, working harder, born into it, or just blind luck. It is what it is and always will be. But having said that - let us know you are looking and people here will be on the look out. That is honestly how a few of us got ours.

Hang in there.

Edit: Maybe consider changing the title if you can. Leads one to believe Neptune / Trident is the cause of the problem and that isn't the case. At least how I read it.

This is actually starting to be addressed at the retail level as well, on BRS's last shipment each customer was limited to 1 per purchase so it takes exponentially longer for bots to grab them for people in bulk which gives others a real chance. Saltwater Aquariums. Com recently had a huge shipment come in and it took days to go out of stock..

Msrp is only for stores. We as consumers are allowed to sell the product for any amount we find to be fair .

Because there is no MSRP on corals. It's just what ever it is. That's the beauty of coral sales. No one knows.

You’re not listening. I said the price of the trident is regulated because there’s a set msrp. Corals aren’t regulated because there isn’t a set msrp.

Doesn’t matter, once a private seller gets it, he/she can sell it for whatever they want.

Msrp have nothing to do with private sales.
That’s what I am saying.

people were selling Tesla’s for a huge markup because you couldn’t get them from Tesla. If you had the $$$ and someone wanted to sell you a Tesla for more than MSRP why should that be regulated
