I’m trying to figure out the reason why you’re so eager to go down this rabbit hole.

The only thing this would make a difference to is growth rate, which is a fine reason if that is your goal, or of course if it’s solely for your own curiosity.

However, many people go down this rabbit hole for the wrong reasons, and when their PH range is considered to be just fine, which in turn gives them nothing other than a faster fall downhill, accelerating the affects of the problem they already been experiencing because they were focused on the wrong aspect of reef keeping.

Colors and coral health in general are controlled by stability, nutrient management, proper trace elements, bacterial diversity and correct lighting and flow - so if you’re experiencing an actual problem that needs fixing, I would focus on these instead.

Let’s just say it’s my way of doing things
If I loose a corak for instance and don’t know why I like to check my parameters and have a good think if I changed anything up to a few months earlier
So by having the parameters I want and I know are good it’s easier to rule out something

And a stable but out of range value needs addressing imo

OK, that’s a fine approach for reef keeping, and what we all do. However, this does not answer the question - why do you want to change your current PH range to be higher?

I went down this rabbit hole and ultimately achieved my goals. Do I think it matters? Was it worth it? I really don’t know but I enjoyed the journey.

Despite the efforts I put into it, I actually don’t recommend chasing higher pH for most reefers.

Interesting, now I have to ask. When is the last time you recalibrate your pH probe?

I was feeling real good about my pH and I decided to recalibrate my probe:

:zany-face: darn thing likes to drift…

What did you do to raise it and keep it stable?

I'm contemplating trying to raise mine a bit. I'd like if I could get it to bottom out at 8.0 at night. That said I don't have any macro growing in my sump, and my sump is in the basement and my skimmer pulls air from there. Hoping by just getting an outdoor airline to feed my skimmer I can achieve my goal. Currently in the 7.9-8.04 range

Outside air definitely helped my situation

I started with pulling in outside air to the skimmer. That raised it from 7.6 at night to 7.8 and around 7.9 during the day. Then I put a air pump outside with an air stone in the sump but that did absolutely nothing. Kalk was by far the most effective. My alk is staying around 9.5 and I got a nice ph boost.

So dosing kalk is something I've done very little research into but I know it raises ph. That said I might have to look into it. As I was going to dose all for reef but then my ph being so low I didn't want to start dosing till I got my ph modestly higher

AFR did nothing to my ph. I still dose it but mostly for the trace elements.

Doesn't cause issues combining AFR with kalk? Figured you'd get too much calcium and alk?
