Im going to be upgrading my 110 to a 125 (6'!!!) soon.
Finishing up the stand this weekend, then goes to the getting tank and sump ready 🙂

What are some important things/tips/tricks/anything else to consider when moving the old tank to new one?

Thanks!

I was just discussing rinsing any old sand before putting it into a new system. Probably the best simple improvement that can help a tank transfer go well when sand is present. RInsing new sand, or old prevents cloudiness in a tank from sand for years. It won't stop detritus accumulation, but risned sand is easier to clean and a disturbed rinsed bed will avoid clouds that are common with unrinsed sand. Do it once, the tank will thank you.

Ill check out that thread, thanks.

Im thinking of replacing sand because I want this tank to be more sps focused --> more flow --> and my sand is really fine right now

Also my gold headed goby would make (less) of a mess

Love those gobies! If you get new (larger grained) sand, I still encourage you to wash it until the fines are gone. Best thing I have done that didn't cost anything except maybe an hour to wash the 3 inch sandbed in a 100 gallon tank. Future siphon cleaning was greatly improved, as clouds were removed and never came back....

Ya I screwed up once and didn't rinse sand then added a dragon wrasse. Every evening when it dove into the sand for the night they're was a cloud of dust.

One thing I've found to be very helpful is being able to keep the existing tank running while making the move. It allows you to take your time. I'm currently in the process of moving out of my SPS tank. I'm staying bare bottom tho, I run a lot of flow and don't like to deal with trying to keep sand clean looking. I added 35lbs of gulf live rock and am planning on bringing coral and rocks over slowly. My last move took a couple of months but that was because built a new scape out of dry rock and filled the sump full of live rock to seed it.
My problem with moving this time is trying not to break everything. I only moved one rock so far and already have this pile of broken branches of Copps Cali

I'm finishing my move tomorrow and I'm so glad I could leave the old tank running. It's really allowed me to be patient with the new tank.

Yes indeed. The worst transfers are those surprize middle of the week, late at night leaks discovered at 0400 hours when you slip into a puddle forming at the bottom of the stairway/waterfall....

Trying to find enough tupperware and circulation pumps to keep stuff alive until the LFS opens has got to be the most difficult way of making a tank move. 👨‍🌾 👨‍🌾
