I’m upgrading to a 125 gallon tank soon (yay!)

I would need to drill it

Should I do two 18-24” overflows in each corner?
Would a single 18-24” center be good
What about a 33-36” center?

Im thinking of modular marine

Any other drilling tips are appreciated!

Any of those would work. I would probably do a 24" center overflow on a standard 6 ft 125 gal. The 36" would give you better surface skimming but I don't know that it is worth the added cost. I would not do dual overflows as balancing the flow between the two is problematic and it adds more cost

No it's really not at all, just take it slow, i had a cup of water next to mine and after about 30 seconds to a minute I would dunk the saw bit in the water. Tape the inside where you are going to drill to limit debris that falls into the tank. Very light pressure just let the bit do the work.

I bought my 125 used, and it had dual overflows, one on each end. I hadn't seen this before but I've come to love the design. It keeps the main portion of the tank free from visual obstruction.

A great benefit is it hides powerheads really well (which can be placed on the end panel in front of or behind the overflows). Here's another angle showing the perspective from the end panel. My tank is young but the plan is to use this particular overflow (right hand side of tank) as a cryptic zone for sponges.

I'm using the left side for one full siphon and one wet trickle drain. The wet trickle is my first emergency drain. The right side has the return and a dry emergency drain. This creates a continuous surface flow from right to left, without having to worry about balancing drains in two overflows.

Thank you

Amazing scape by the way

IM buying it used too.

What kind of setup (fowlr, sofites, mixed etc) are you gonna do and what lights?

Was the tank a freebie, or why risk drilling a brand new tank? (Aka Why not get a tank with drains already in it?)

Planning to do a mixed reef with focus on easier SPS (Stylophora, birdsnest, montis, Pavona, Pocillopora, etc.). I've also really come to like acans and favias in my limited time in the hobby so far. I plan to dramatically limit the neon colors and go for a more natural aesthetic with a greater focus on interesting growth forms instead of neon colors.

The lights are Nicrews (100W HyperReef gen 2) I got from Amazon. Great price and I like how they can produce a whiter/daylight look. I may upgrade to their 150W or 200W later if needed, or maybe add a NavaReef 65 on each side if I need more PAR.

Alright, thanks again. Im prob gonna do mainly these lps, like hammers, torches, favia, acans and the like. Prob not sps or very few, and also mixed in softies like zoas

Im also a favia fan too! picked up 3 frags last week

Man look closer.....his has END DRAINS not corner drains that are much more common. I had to do a double-take!!

IMO pony up the $200 (or negotiate better) for the one already drilled.....a no brainer at least for me. :)

I thought they were corner drains too until I first looked at the tank in person.

I agree! I would get one for $200 before trying to drill one, unless the drilled tank was in rough shape compared to the other.

How do you like this one? Any issues with it?
No issues with the MM overflows. This is my second one. I had one on my previous tank (+ the current one).

The dual corner guy has had it up for 450… then 350… and he posted recently for 250 so I was gonna ask 200.

Update - Im getting the reef ready 125 for $150.

How should I plumb it?

Do I do main 2 bean animals on one side, return + emergency on the other?

If anything, the free (non-drilled) one isn't in the best shape, the guy said, whereas reef ready, he said, it's recently resealed
