What are you dosing? Sps keepers.

I do give the stones a quick daily shake just to slough some bacteria off.
I think zeovit is less rigid than the guide & forum would have us believe & adapts well to low nutrients rather than ulns.
I run kalk which is a zeo no go but I’ve seen no negatives from it.
Same here! I top off with kalk and dose all for reef to make up the rest. I’m not dosing the zeo as I should but hey! A little here or there and my tank is doing great!

I stopped using zeobak after it's been tested as to have strep.

I do think it is better at helping control my nutrients than any other additive that I am close to zero at times when I was using it to completion. I've switched to using Purple Non-Sulfur Bacteria, Dr Tims and Microbacter 7 and bacto balance for maintenance this year.

I still have the KZ colors kit that I want to use eventually except that the ICP is going to be an investment if I did start on this dosing regimen.
I read those reports and saw the latest test which showed it again.. I still don’t know what half of that means 🤣

To be honest I didn’t even know it was a competition like that till he texted me.. at least mine is a thread with data and experiences.. I mean I can summons stewy if we just gotta spam 🤦🏻‍♂️. That’s not why I created this! I honestly wanna know what people are doing today as I left for a long time and came back to a different scene with different people! I’m old skool man!

Stewie Griffin? Teasing.

If anyone has been in the hobby long enough what is old becomes new. The only difference that I see is today social media is the foundation compared to physical media, books, being ours. The ego side of me says that books are better because of the authors who wrote them.

There are also plenty of good articles through advanced aquarist although the search capability is lacking sadly. Just my opinion though. I mean today we are blinded by a lot of market speak and there are zero standards nor checks and balances. Sort of reminds me of the men's health space, vitamins, or supplements.

Hard to argue why Kalkwasser works and is cheaper that almost everything else, right?

That’s an interesting read.
The query RE sterile(or non) packing environment makes sense

Yeah, the good ole days of advanced aquarist haha! Sunny posted a Long Island manhattan museum tank it’s ran off kalk! It’s gigantic like 17,000 gallons of something and pretty amazing! At least I believe that’s where the tank was located! It was super simple and very amazing!

There is nothing wrong with 2 part or 3 part just as there is nothing wrong with Kalkwasser. Not to state the obvious but some hobbyist like to tinker and additive based methods may scratch that itch. Others like simpler solutions that maybe All For Reef brings and budget accordingly. Some like to mix things up and find a combination that works.

The part I find rather interesting is those who use a product or method in ways that it wasn't designed for. Sort of like the right tool for the job. The hammer or screwdriver isn't always the right choice. Ok, there is one exception. F4 tape. That is always the right option...

But I ramble...

Just another tool in the box...

I mean it’s just missing a pin with cotter key in the bottom hole but I don’t see a problem with that! The real question is that metric or American?

'Murican. The missing cotter pin just means you can't slow down over the bumps!
Best way to live right? BFI - Brute force and ignorance.
Cyano? Do whatever you are doing but harder. GHA? You got it, double down! No growth? Dose 2x and rig your lights with a super charger!

I do wonder sometimes how many really do adopt that mentality...

I can’t stress enough that reefing is only as hard as you make it! The whole lighting thing you speak of is crazy also! 5000w isn’t better than 500w if the spectrum is right and coverage is acceptable lol.

Need the lad/lass who called us newbs for using AFR. I forget the members name sadly :(
That would definitely fit @Miami Reef 's viral thread formula. The controversy stoked there would push this over the line!

Been using AFR pretty much exclusively for over 2 years. Up to ~65ml a day in a 75. Was doing 50ml daily in a 40 until recently upgrading. Its expensive by comparison, but i dont have any filtration components(skimmers, scrubbers, reactors, fuge etc..so where i save in equipment costs and maintenance time, i can justify the AFR expense and ease of use. Only now am I starting to see AFR struggle. It has been working fine to maintain alk but doesnt quite keep up with Calcium anymore so started dosing Brightwells reef code A as well to bring ca up but also to get some extra mg and sr into the system. Colors arent great in some corals, so i m working on starting to figure out trace elements. Will likely send in an ICP once everything stabilizes so i know exactly whats going on. Was dosing captiv8 isolate mt and a bunch of my acros got that sps bubbling disease thing and it went away when i stopped. So something was getting too elevated im thinking. Anyways…

Lol, no. Not Miami. I'm 100% positive in this case. I'll have to do a search, let me see. Not that I want to stir that pot but for fun.

Edit: ah, I missed the direction of your post. Sorry about that.

That’s actually BRILLIANT!

I see the vision:

“AFR is a beginner’s additive.”
No self-respected reefer would pay extra for an additive a child can use.

Thread = viral.

He made a reference because I’ve been trying to brainstorm ideas for viral threads to win the contest that’s been going on lol.

The most viral, educational, and creative thread of the week gets a cool badge and tunze top off system.
