Wow, great setup!

Where did you get those grey pipe hangers/clamps?
I think BRS carries some but I hunted them down from different places. I think they were originally called click clamps.

These are the basic clamps. They have accessories like threaded nipples and metal threaded tabs that fit into the bottom slot. I used those to make a double sided clamp.

No. Some have different levels of functionality the question I’ve always had is how much of that functionality is required for a reef tank to succeed. Ie there are many witrh 3 or 4 baffles some people think that adds function. I’m just sure that all of the bells and whistles costing hundreds of dollars. Much of the benefit of a sump imho is a much larger water volume and a place to put a slimmer and a carbon reactor. A refugium is a simple piece of plastic. Agai. Jmho
Honestly I have ran reef tanks for years with sumps without any baffles. Just a plain aquarium or Rubbermaid container. I never had problems with microbubbles or anything. When I first started these fancy sumps didn't even exist. The closest thing were "wet/dry filters." I think these fancy sumps are cool but I think beginners get the idea that they have to spend hundreds or thousands to buy one to be successful. That is simply not the case.

yes - that's what I was getting at - I started a thread 'heresey - why colored PVC (or PVC at all) - ro something like that'. I understand that people like to create, build, tinker, etc - take the Reef-PI people - there is no 'need' to build a controller - but it is a hobby. I view these (admittedly beautiful-seriously) tanks with hidden wires, color coded PVC similar to these 'special sumps'. They are nice - but not 'needed' (unless the aquarist as the need to tinker/etc) - which is valid. To me the value of a sump is to hide stuff you don't want 'up top' (HOB skimmers, etc) - and increasing the water volume. Im not sold on refugia - but No issue with those that like them - I think they also just add water area to the tank.

Wow, there are some truly awesome setups around here! I hope most of you have build threads cause I'm gonna be on the hunt for them. I've gotta see what some of these systems are supporting :)

I found a cheap used acrylic sump locally. I just got my system full for test leak and it's passed both leak test and handles the overflow in case of power outage. I' happy with that and it'll get me going on this build, but man....some of these setups have me dreaming for a custom built sump down the line.

i agree that you don't need all this to have a successful tank but dang i like to tinker, otherwise i would be racing cars now talk about expensive !!!!

I have always done diy sumps to save money and I enjoy doing things like that. Old pics of my sump before I got the light and macro in the fuge.

After going back and forth w/ Geo Reef Sumps and a Synergy sumps! I have decided to go with a CL-44 synergy sump w/ out a refuge like you see below but mine will be 10'' longer.
This how I will be plumbing my RED and White sump along with a 10 gallon Matching ATO container that will sit right next to it. Also, I will be running my 3 1.5inch drains almost the same way you see below:
Cabinet shot of the plumbing example:

Example of how I will be running my 3.15inch drains

My previous setup I used a Synergy Reef sump and ATO and was very happy with it.

For my new, smaller setup I am currently between Fiji Cube 30 or Crystal Reef Aquatics SRS30.
