I broke my Kent Marine RO/DI system and have been buying water at the LFS and forgot how much of a pain it is especially when there are emergencies and I dont have it on hand.

Are all RO/DIs essentially the same?

I am currently looking at the Puratek RO/DI since there is a decent deal going on this month from MD.

I have the Typhoon 5 stage unit. I replaced the DI stage with a refillable one.

What is broke on it? If it is just one of the housings you can buy them from BRS, Marine Depot, Drs F&S. There is really nothing on them that can not be replaced and if you want to increase flow just get a RO membrane GPd that you want, and get the propper size waste water restricter for it.

Can you use all RO/DI for drinking water too? Like switch off the DI and use the RO only...

I use the AWI Typhoon III, great unit and probably the best deal going. The Spectrapure that's on sale for $150 is also a really nice unit at a good price. Just remember, the 75gpd membrane is better than the 100gpd if you go with AWI.

I just replaced my old RODI with one from Bulk reef and i love it

I have mine set up to do this. I have a couple of T's with shut off valves. One for drinking water then it goes to aquarium water. Its nice to have it that way.

the main thing to look for is filters, at a minimum you want the filmtec 75 gpd membrane. the cto2 carbon block is also supposed to be the best carbon block on the market. i use a cheap ebay unit that i eventually upgraded the components as the went bad. Like was said you could prolly use the unit you have, just need to fix er up.

Spectrapure all the way. No other vendor hand tests, treats and guarantees their membranes nor custom hand blends their DI resins for optimum performance. Nor do they use absolute rated prefilters and most don't use the better capillary tube flow restrictors. And best of all their units are $100 off retail here:

SpectraPure Customer Appreciation SALE! 20% - 50% off

At $149 no one can touch the ProPlus for value and no one offers anything even similar to the MaxCaps.

I used Kent for several years. Their resins were hit and miss sometimes. I then went with a Spectrapure Maxcap unit 3 years ago and there is no way I would consider anything else now.

I have the BRS 5 Stage PLus system. Great customer service and easy to use. During one of their promos, I even got their 150 gpd extra membrane upgrade for free!!

I really like aquafx small company great cutomer service

Every unit mentioned is not near the value a Spectrapure MaxCap or Pro Plus provides for less money. At $149 and $249 no one comes close in quality or performance. Do the others test their membranes performance, treat them in a proprietary process and ship them wet and sealed? No. Do they custom mix their DI resins in a lab and test the results? No. Do they provide a capillary tube flow restrictor for an exact 4:1 waste ratio when set up properly? No. Do they guarantee the RO membrane to be better than 98% rejection like the MaxCap? No. Study the differences and the price and I think you will agree.
