I currently have a Maxspect Jump Gyre MJ-GF316 and two Jebao MLW-10. First, I find the Maxspect too strong on my LPS heavily dominated tank. It's currently pointing up, agitating the surface, set at random mode on only level 1 and 2 because anything higher (up to 9) then that rips the heads off my torches. Next, so I can have something reaching across the tank, I added two Jebao's on the opposite side of the Gyre. And while the one works well, the other one threw and error code 4 (pump body stall) within one week of running it. I'm not very happy with my flow set up and I don't think my corals are as well.

I have a 4 foot 90 gallon display tank. I have a few SPS like birds nest, hydnophora, pavona, and so on. But most of the corals are hammers, torches, frogspawn and octospawn, some acans, gonioparos... etc. I would love some suggestions on what pumps to buy and maybe even a few suggestions on where to put these new pumps. I do plan to move the gyre so it's behind the rock work (after I move the rockscape around because it's currently leaning along the back glass).

That is great question. I would look at either of the following locations to buy online; Bulk Reef Supply or Saltwateraquaium.com. I've been using them for years and they have great selections on the different style wavemaker pumps.

I had a 120 gallon reef that is 4' across like the 90 gallon. I had to find ones that weren't too powerful or weak. I decided to use the Neptune Systems WAV (discontinued), however many pumps these days have a controller type interface like the WAV to change the settings from max flow to different styles to create different effects (e.g. tidal flow, waves, etc.).

Now the current market has many options to choose from. For the high end in price point; I would look at either the VorTech MP10 or AI Nero 3. I would buy two of these and place them on either side of the display tank. Their app allows you to control the style and flow you want. This would be around $750 (estimate before shipping and taxes) for two MP 10 or $400 for the Nero 3. These are great options since the wet side can come out and cleaned on a regular basis without affecting the cable management for them.

As you go lower in price you start trading controllability and maintenance ease. For instance you can get AC ones relatively cheap and Sicce makes a great product line. But you start to trade options.

These are my suggestions and what you plan to do with the gyre is perfect.

Good luck.
