I would like to thank wickedfun (I wish I knew how to link her in this), for her thread about Skiltters. It got me thinking about days of old.

How many of us more “experienced” reefers can remember back to when it first started for us. That one thing we said wow to. The excitement that came with getting a Skilter or whatever it may be. Everything was new. Yellow tangs were awesome and purple tangs exotic. Now we talk about sources or algea or par levels or dosing.

I have to stop sometimes and just look. Forget about the numbers, lights, etc. in the end, for me it is about that guy in that glass and how awesome he or she or it is.

I am interested in what sparked that interest in everyone else?

And for nostalgia folks, before there were forums there was this......

I have that book somewhere. I feel now that keeping aquariums is an escape for me to enjoy something that is not related to my career. I have fun being citizen scientist with my own research projects related to my aquarium system. I also have a great sense of accomplishment with my aquarium system knowing that I built most of it from scratch as a DIY build. The methods for keeping aquariums have changed in some respects since I started but I still feel that I need to add some old school flare to how I maintain my systems. The other interesting aspect of this hobby has always been learning about the different methods of husbandry and how I might apply them to my own aquarium system.

The clownfish and his anemone is what got me into this hobby as a result my tank is full of anemones. I believe in keeping things simple and natural and so I minimize the use of equipments to the bare necessity and use natural filtration approach such as macroalgae, seagrass and deep sandbed in other words mother nature maintains my tank.:)

I've only been in this gig for a year and a half but the wealth of knowledge avaliable to digest via forums, local community lfs and chat groups and YouTube is the reason why I've caught up quickly to where I am now. The application of said knowledge and is only limited by budget haha
