Wifi VS Bluetooth return pump difference???

Does anyone know what the pros/cons are to wifi (MDP) VS Bluetooth (DEP) return pumps? Specifically the Jebao DEP vs MDP, I know the DEPs are newer than the MDPs and based on what I gather, they are the same aside from the wifi/Bluetooth but I'm not tech savvy enough i guess to understand pros/cons of the 2 or major difference. Bluetooth has a shorter limited range. It also can not carry as much data as Wi-Fi. It can have interference issues as well if too many devices are using the protocol.

In a nut shell Blue tooth means you need to be near the device to make changes. Wi-Fi will allow control from anywhere with Internet access.
I find neither needed on a return pump because a return is not something that I often change once it is set up. A feed button is nice but that's all I need on a return pump. I run all jebao DCP pumps. They are controllable DC pumps but do not have WiFi or Bluetooth control.

Bluetooth is a much simpler connection. No passwords or router settings to deal with. I have a couple of the DCW bluetooth gyres, and connecting them is just a matter of tapping the connect button. They connect every time within 1-2 seconds. Wifi can be a pain for some people.

The downside of bluetooth is that your phone must be physically near the pump in order to connect. There's no way to control it away from home. Although I have mine plugged into a wifi power strip so I can turn them on and off remotely. Settings cannot be changed this way, but the previous settings are retained when powering off/on.

I'm guessing Jebao switched to bluetooth because of customer issues with more complex wifi connections. I wonder if they will continue with bluetooth only on future models. Personally, I like the simplicity and reliability of bluetooth, but if you need remote control of pump settings (which you shouldn't for a return pump), wifi is the only way.

If you’re getting more Jebao devices later, I’d favor the WiFi version to limit Bluetooth interference possibilities. The screen of the WiFi compatible MDP is really nice compared to other Jebao products. Other than that I think they’re the same.

I have an MDP 20000 on a 250 system with 4 1.5” overflows and I can’t set it above 35%. Hoping this reduced load helps with longevity.

I have 4 SCPs on the system with the MDP and they seem to mess up their schedule nightly. I don’t know if it’s related the Bluetooth or not, but it’s annoying and I’m going to shake my fist at the sky about it.

One you can likely control when you are not present, the one with bluetooth will require something to do just that. If you get a controller later on for more automation, bluetooth will be the limiting factor. All of today's AI Prime HD16 are wifi and require an MXM for Apex control, but I have one for four years ago that is wifi and does not require the MXM at all.

You can only connect to one device at a time with bluetooth. Connecting to a second device automatically drops the connection to the first, so number of devices should have little or no impact on interference. Bluetooth also uses adaptive frequency hopping to avoid interference. I'm not sure that numerous devices would be any more problematic with bluetooth than with wifi.

Are the SCPs the bluetooth ones? Because the MDPs are wifi, you arent having to mess with the MDP nightly right?

Idk how this stuff works but are you sure that it would be the same regardless of number of devices? If so, then the only difference would be that the wifi could be controlled away from home vs bluetooth cannot.

Blue tooth will not allow connectivity to the device if the distance is more than 15-20 feet.

WiFi distances are much greater.

Yes. I can't imagine ever needing to control a return pump away from home, but wifi will allow you to control it with the app from anywhere, provided your phone has internet access. I prefer the simplicity of bluetooth, but wifi allows you to use the app anywhere.

I imagine wifi could theoretically handle more devices than bluetooth, but you're never going to run into that limit with a handful of pumps. Interference shouldn't be a problem for bluetooth or wifi outside of extreme scenarios. The difference is really just ease of connection (bluetooth is a direct connection, wifi requires your router as a middleman), and remote control.

Yes, get a VPN to your home instead of a shared (aka anonymous VPN) service. Taliscale is one I can recommend if your home router doesn't support that or you are not comfortable enough with other solutions.

Then you can control it just as if you were sitting in your home on Wifi. With bluetooth, only within its range without a controller.

Well im just thinking worst case scenario, i can turn my pumps off remotely if i see there is an issue over the cameras.

Why would I need a VPN for that and why would it just not work being connected to my wifi while im away somewhere else?
