Like the title says, will interceptor kill a pistol shrimp? I think I might have red bugs and want to treat my tank, but I don't think I'll be able to get the pistol shrimp out. He has a burrow in a rock with at least three different entrances. If I put my hand in the tank, he's gone. Also will it harm a brittle star? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It will not have any effect on the starfish, it only wipes out crustaceans. Unfortunately you may be shopping for a new pistol shrimp. I did 3 rounds on my tank a couple of years ago and one skunk shrimp was okay and one was dead.

Remove every bit of rock in your tank....

These guys are annoying...I had to pull out over 200lbs of liverock from my tank in order to get one little pistol out...needless to say, I'm never getting a pistol shrimp again.....POP! POP! POP!

I had to use Interceptor for red bugs about 3 months ago and I was worried about the same thing as well as a fire shrimp, coral banded shrimp, and peppermint.. I have two with gobies in different locations in my 120G (100 G volume). I finally made the decision to run the interceptor rather than tear the tank apart. I went very conservative on the amount I used and when for the traditional 6 hours treatment. It killed all my redbugs, 1 hermit crab, and a few bristleworms, but I didn't lose any shrimp. It also wiped out the redbugs. I was planning to do a follow up treatment, but when I noticed all redbugs were gone over the following weeks, I decided to pass on it. 2 months later, all shrimp alive, all redbugs dead.

Jcom, what was the conservative amount that you used. I just don't see taking everything out as an option. The fact that yours made it makes me feel a little more comfertable about giving it a shot.

I used a 16 oz water bottle. cut the first quarter off. flipped it around and burried half in the sand near its den with some food trailing into the bottle. I turned off the moon lights that night and when i checked the next morning he was in there. Just my experience. I covered the bottle with a rock so it would seem like a cave. I agree I will never get another pistol either. kept digging the sand out from under the rocks.

Good luck.
