I bet there is no calcium or nitrates left in that tank! LOL!

My 6” blue maxima somehow lives in my super high nitrates environment.

It definitely is cool but man does that throw off the perspective of the tank...really takes away any chance of the reef looking natural lol.

The gigas has not been collected/aquacultured/imported for while (probably 8-10 years) so any that persist in captive tanks are going to be HUGE. The problem isn't just space, but how to handle any spawning events. Even a squamosa can get to 18", which is quite big enough for even a monster tank. Most Gigas are rather plain looking, though I had a stunning one back in the early 2000s - green and yellow. I sold it off at about 12" - always rather regretted doing so.

@Troy V I believe is the man your after;)

Watching his builds has definately given me pause over getting one in the future as Well, I would love one for my DT but it's not going to get upgraded any time soon once it's set up so I'd need a clam that stayed about half that size lol

That is it! Yes. He is amazing. Very friendly when I chatted with him on how he keeps it, longevity, care, etc. Super amazing person who took the time to answer what I know are ignorant questions of mine but never the less was gracious enough to explain in laymen s terms.

Given the story about John Coppolino's gigas of this stature on the other reef site (1300 gallon SPS monster), and what happened (it spawned), I think the answer is "not just "no", but "heck no!". They're awesome in the ocean or in a large public aquarium facility, but the possibility of a spawn killing everything in the tank would definitely keep my up at night....

This right here. My med squammy started spawning last sun night and induced my larger and smaller one to spawn...needless to say i had a tank full of clam soup....alot of wet skimming, carbon change, water change, extra air stone in the sump and many filter pads later i finally got to bed....but was happy to see in the morning nothing died.

Monster sized natural filter and no media changes. Except for the spawning. I had a group of 5 clams spawn simultaneously and that was a mess and two days solid work...;Vomit

I'd love to have one if it would stay in the 6" mark... but then I remember this behemoth and I realize it would take up 2/3 of my tank. Hard pass for me. Best left in the ocean.
